Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 11, 2015 7:57 pm Our new-built home will be ready for pre handover soon. However, builder said that the cooker, dish washer and hot water heater will only be installed after we move in. Is this the usual practice and how is the pre handover inspector to check on the connections if they are not there on day of inspection? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks. Re: Should appliances be installed prior or after moving in? 2Jul 11, 2015 8:12 pm It's fairly normal to fit them on the handover day. . . otherwise they could well get stolen. Too many people will know the appliances are in the house and know the house can still be opened by a construction key (see http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2012/01/construction-locks/) You need to check all the locks on the handover day and ideally move in even if its ownly one of you "camping out" on handover day. Also make sure the house contents insurance starts on handover day. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
