Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 09, 2015 4:53 pm Hi guys, Just was wondering if anyone can explain to me why Metricon will not supply the skirting boards if you choose to do your own flooring after handover? They wont even take the $2,000 fee to re-install later if you don't choose their flooring package! It's either get them to install them, then we have to rip them off later and re-do after flooring which might damage the walls, or, no skirtings will be provided if you do not get floorboards through them-crazy. It's all or nothing with them, they seem to be forgetting WHO is paying for this house. Any insights, experiences, ideas are welcomed, please help! My Metricon Glendale in Sydney. Re: Metricon Flooring Dilemmas 3Jul 09, 2015 7:30 pm Ive done this very situation some 6 months ago and went well but volume builders really dont have organizational skills or care to see this through without really butchering it sonewhere down the line, first you need chippy to leave off Areas that are getting wood floors; and painter to return along with chippy to re fix and paint, then hope like hell that no damage occurs, which is almost a certainty. I would do all areas and leave off areas that are getting wood floors; ask where they get their skirting from or research where and just buy and organize yourself; try asking chippy to pay him direct. Is not hard to do if you organize it. Hi Joker, Yes, I think you are absolutely right, these builders have no idea of how to go about organizing the trades for what I think, is a pretty easy thing to do. Due to their ineptitude, I think we might get them to leave the skirting boards off, and get a chippie later, at least it will be done right hey? !!! Another concern I have is with the rebated aluminium stacker doors. If we put down ply boards first, then lay the floor boards, will the top of the floor level be higher than the stacker door? cause that would be a disaster for me? Any ideas? Thanks My Metricon Glendale in Sydney. Re: Metricon Flooring Dilemmas 5Jul 09, 2015 8:03 pm Ari Will they agree to tacking the skirting on? It will make it easier to take off to do your own flooring. Hello Ari, Thanks so much for your response. Would you believe it, they will NOT even tack them on for us, I mean, it's our house for goodness sake, they won't even compromise! So disappointed, and poor Sheilzy, did you see what they did to her floors? omg Metricon, so not on. My Metricon Glendale in Sydney. Re: Metricon Flooring Dilemmas 7Jul 10, 2015 4:19 pm Joker Our doors open in and your doors out I assume but the floor levels get worked out early on, you should be fine has our ply didn't make much height difference. Hi Joker, Oh I hope our doors will be ok, they're the aluminium stacker doors, so they open sideways/slide to the side? I'm just worried that after we lay down the ply and then the floor boards, it will come up higher than the aluminium lip of the door, that we have rebated into the slab? And, what do you think about the front wooden door, will it clear the height of the finished floors or will we have to plane it down? just so stressful lol Thanks again, I appreciate your help! After standing my ground and escalating the flooring issue with a building manager, Metricon have finally agreed for us to install our own floorboards after handover and they will provide all the skirting boards for when we are ready! Much better than the NO, you can't do that or No, we either install them or you have to delete them from your contract. Thank goodness for common sense! My Metricon Glendale in Sydney. Re: Metricon Flooring Dilemmas 11Jul 15, 2015 4:35 am That's what our builder offered ... Said they could leave unfixed, in garage. We decided to have them installed and lay our tiles up to them. Re: Metricon Flooring Dilemmas 12Jul 15, 2015 6:43 pm TomCat That's what our builder offered ... Said they could leave unfixed, in garage. We decided to have them installed and lay our tiles up to them. Hi TomCat! Glad to hear your builder did the right thing by you. Our issue was that we wanted to lay floorboards not tiles, and that's where the problem was. Due to the expansion of floorboards, we need to leave a gap, therefore needed the skirting to be applied after the floors boards because we hate scotia/beading trims placed around the perimeters, but Metricon wanted us to install their floorboards, pay $2,000 to come back later and put on skirting boards. If you didn't get floors through them, well then they delete skirting boards from your contract. However, so happy that sanity prevailed and they have agreed to deliver the skirting boards for us to install after handover. I just don't understand the need for uneccessary drama, especially at tender stage???? Construction manager understood my insistence of having total quality control over my wooden floor, especially after I argued about the mess-up with the joins, trims, beading that poor Sheilzy had, thanks to their flooring person.
