Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 09, 2015 3:58 am Hi, I am new to this site actually first time ever on a forum. Read lots but never had any questions to put out there until now. We are in the process of building a home for the first time, through an upper level Perth builder. Currently at tiling stage..so almost there! For any cabinet makers out there, I need some technical advice on the internal height of drawers. Our cabinets have just been installed and look great from the outside, but when I opened all the drawers I found that the internal height of the back and sides of the drawers was less than half the height of the drawer face. So effectively loosing half my storage space, and causing issues for storing things like flannels and tea towels and would prevent me from having a full drawers of plastic containers as well, as they would all fall out the sides. The builder tells me this is the "new" standard. The drawers are built using Hafele soft closing runners. The plans we approved show full sides and backs. Besides laminate finishes etc, only specification relating to the drawer construction was that it would have soft closers. So naturally I expected standard full sized box behind the drawer face, but with soft closer runners. I have seen Blum soft closing drawers with full height back and sides. So is this the cabinet maker cutting costs or is it really the new standard. If it is the new standard can any one tell me why..as to me it doesn't make any practical sense. I may as well have paid less and stayed with cupboard doors. Can someone please tell me if this can be done. I really can't understand why a standard box drawer has changed to literally a frame around the base. Re: Drawers - internal dimensions and capacity 2Jul 09, 2015 9:14 am Just another example of a builder trying to make more profit although i doubt it would be much on a few draws. I'll say simply... if it's drawn on the plans with full height sides then that is what i would be demanding.
