Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 03, 2008 2:09 pm Hi!
I have been reading these forums for the last few nights (till late!) and found it very helpful. I wanted to try my luck and get some opinions on colour schemes for our new home. I know what I want but its the depth of colour I am concerned with. Not sure whether our kitchen will be too bright with all the surrounding windows...and also, exterior colours are soooo hard due to the brightness of the sun hitting it. I have already had a painter in to change the colour of the front of the house last time we built! AND I sold our garage door on Ebay and ordered a new one in a different colour! And... no we do not have lots of money but I just wanted it to look perfect...as you do! So here I am. Kitchen laminate: Amerind Gloss Cream Flash laminate (off white with a shimmer thru it) Benchtop: QQ New Diamond White Kickboard: Brushed aluminium Splashback: Taupe rectangular gloss tile (matches the taupe in the tile) behind oven and mirror on the sides...down to bench. Tiles: Polished porcelin in an ivory colour Main wall colour: Antique white USA half strength. Oh ...and a gorgeous crystal style 5 light pendant over kitchen bench! Just to add some glam. Dendy A80025 http://www.mercatorlighting.com.au/prod ... %20(A80025).asp Exterior: I am now thinking of perhaps Dulux Royal Beige or Resene Tea half strength for the main house colour with white trims (colour to match Surfmist garage door and gutter/fascia. Any thoughts? And should I paint the front door the same as the house or stain it?? Oh...so many questions. Re: HELP! Hubbie won't let me get a colour consultant! 2Jul 03, 2008 2:15 pm Want me to come and slap him for you?????

You can slap me too Michelle, I wished I had of found this forum before we had our colour appt. I would have hired you in a flash Re: HELP! Hubbie won't let me get a colour consultant! 5Jul 03, 2008 2:27 pm We went with a colour consultant - I can't stress enough how important it is to get some help with colours if you need it. We spent a few hundred dollars - worked out to be 0.1% of the construction cost. We told the consultant what we wanted, showed her a few pictures and she did the rest. Very very happy with her selections - she selected kitchen colours, exterior colours and even our tiles.
I think when you spend hundreds of thousands on a new home, it's best to spend a few hundred dollars and get the colours right. Cheers Re: HELP! In my spare time I build cars with stupidly overpowered engines,... big engines where one piece can easily set you back 12K, very easily... If there's one thing I've learnt its that "It is easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission." Re: HELP! Kitchen laminate: Amerind Gloss Cream Flash laminate (off white with a shimmer thru it) Benchtop: QQ New Diamond White Kickboard: Brushed aluminium Splashback: unsure? Last house was tile/mirror so would like that again as it is cheaper than glass. Tiles: Polished porcelin in an ivory colour Oh ...and a gorgeous gem style 5 light pendant over kitchen bench! Just to add some glam. Dendy A80025 http://www.mercatorlighting.com.au/prod ... %20(A80025).asp Exterior: A house I love has Wattyl Geisha White/ White Pepper and Porpoise. Looks great. The lady also gave me Taubmans Woolaware and Donkey as part of their colour scheme so am I am unsure exactly what has been used where but I think its the 3 Wattyl colours mentioned first. Can my design do with 3 colours or should I just keep it simple? I really want the wow factor and was thinking of using Porters Instant Rust for a different look?? Or just do the white beach house look. And should I paint the front door the same as the house or stain it?? Oh...so many questions. I can spank him for you?! Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)? If the sun hits a window directly it doesn't matter too much if it's double or single… 1 12647 9 24757 Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7134 |
