Some of the items might be had to install after handover for example ÌXL bathroom heaters (these need a big custom cutout depending on the unit u get). Oh good tip on the timber noggin for pendant lights. We have completed a rough draft of all the electrical plans ourselves and will discuss with the consultant next week. Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney Re: Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 342Oct 02, 2015 7:13 am True we did get the 3in1s in one bathroom from M as well as we did not want to make a large cut out post handover Few tips incase you haven't noted them from my older post With the bathroom power points they will install it at something like 1.8m above floor level. Avg vanity is like 800m so the plug will be quite high! We reduced ours as close as possible whilst meeting code. M also install the light switches at something like 1100m (same height as the door handles) this was way to low for us, so we increased it. I'd hate to walk into a dark room and fumble around for a light! If you like the idea of keeping your bench space clean in the bathrooms add under bench gpo in the bathrooms. We also added one in the kitchen. Add external power points for Xmas lights both upstairs and down. Add external Gpo for garden lighting front and back. Gas point for Alfresco for bbq. Make sure you think about two way/three way wiring where needed (entry, long hall ways, front portico/balcony lights, stair void lights, step lights) We did missed 1) under cupboard lighting in the kitchen and now regretting it. 2) wiring for strip lighting in master shower niche that would have been a nice touch Hope that helps. viewtopic.php?t=78985 Re: Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 343Oct 02, 2015 7:50 am Franky40 True we did get the 3in1s in one bathroom from M as well as we did not want to make a large cut out post handover Few tips incase you haven't noted them from my older post With the bathroom power points they will install it at something like 1.8m above floor level. We did read yr forum on tips before so it was good. 1. We provisioned 4 junction boxes one on each sides of the house for future garden lights. 2. Good points on the light switches. We plan to place them at 1250mm and since we are upgrading to the back light LED saturn light switches it should illuminate some what http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii548/Liem_Nguyen/Mobile%20Uploads/Screenshot_2015-09-27-19-51-43-1.png 3. Haven't thought about gpo for under the bathroom vanities. Seems like a good idea! 4. Two-way wiring is always a tricky one so will leave it for the consultant to advise. 5. We are planning on using a timer for the staircase step lights so it's programmed to be always on between evenings and morning. It also will act as a backlit to the stairs in case I sleep walk at night 6. We have a couple LEDs for kitchen under cupboards which makes it look nicer! 7. Wow strip lighting for master niche would be nice but I hope it's waterproof Orpheus Building the Metricon Glendale 38|Sydney Re: Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 344Oct 02, 2015 10:59 pm Orpheus 3. For the rain water tanks I think u can switch it off (water pump I think) so u can bypass the rain water and use direct water? This is what most people do since the filtered water from the rain water is yellow in colour and causes staining for toilets and washing machines. Stupid government regulations make us pay 30k for a big *** water tank which most people turn off anyways. Only if the installation is sub standard...which is the case with practically all of the ones I see on Homeone. Compliance does not guarantee a good installation. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 346Oct 03, 2015 12:58 pm If it is properly set up, you won't need filtration for supplying cisterns and washing machines. End filtration is a bandaid cure. The aim should be to deliver good quality water to the tank and then deliver the best quality water in the tank to an appropriately sized pump. Most new home owners get ripped off by paying excessive amounts for sub standard installations. A well set up rainwater harvesting system need cost no more than a bad one and will often cost less. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 347Oct 03, 2015 9:37 pm Franky40 Orpheus, We did not get any lighting/fans from studio m only batten light points. Other than things like exhaust fan for wet areas without windows (that M have to install for you as part of building code) you can just ask them to wire everything else without getting the fitting from them. I think one down light from studio M was like $125 when we did our selections . You can get light point for $15 or $20 and then get the light and install it yourself post handover (probably will cost you $50-$60 all up). Our consultant almost encouraged us to do this. If you want to get pendants make sure you add a timber noggin to the light point so that it can bare the weight. viewtopic.php?t=78985 $15-$20 for a light point? We were quoted $55 for a batten light and $65 if we want M to install it at precise location. This is in Melbourne. With this price, the price is very competitive to do it after handover Re: Dream Metricon Glendale 38 (Sydney)! 348Oct 03, 2015 9:39 pm Franky40 Orpheus, We did not get any lighting/fans from studio m only batten light points. Assuming $20 for d/l + $20 for installation and $50 for point - each d/l will cost up to $90 where as M were charging $130 per d/l - so a decent saving. Hi Orpheous - I was making a guess @ 20 per d/l - I need to research these. I know this website that ausbuster recommended had some d/l at this price: mases lighting @ www.maseslighting.com.au 0407 371 918 From memory Sheilzy spent $15 per d/l. Even if M are using $35 one, and you buy the same, still your bill will be around $105 - saving of $25 per d/l - which adds up. Yeah I wonder how much an electrician will charge to install the d/l..... At the moment if I calculate for us then it's $50 per light point, $35 for d/l and I'm guess $30 ea for installation then it's $115ea total compared to $130 ea from M. We are looking at adding 70 odd extra d/l so total savings is approx $1k. So we are tossing up if $1k is worth to do it external or with M. Oh yeah , M provides the 11W LEDs and on the advise from G38 we are planning to increase the d/l to dimmable 13 or 15W for the high use areas such as living/kitchesn/dining/leisure rooms. The rest of the hiuse can use the 11W LEDs. Does anyone know the wattage for the LEDs used in the Glendale display home n Edmonson Park? I would of thought they are the standard (11W) LEDs M is providing?
