This week we got our building approval come through!!
I've had to get United Energy to get their subcontractor to go back to fix the damage on our neighbours nature strip where their storm water no longer runs to the gutter...

We think we're going to switch our lower level flooring to tile, to overcome the issues of flooring under cabinetry and skirting, plus tiles will wear better with kids and pets. As such, today was spent looking at tiles at Beaumont Tiles, and we had to pick out a glass splashback at Studio M.
We got quoted today for 600 x 600 Santorini White GL-Porc tiles, which we're thinking we'll go with instead of the engineered timber boards as well as saving the cost of skirting after flooring as well. Quite a nice, grey/white tile, but we forgot to take a photo http://www.beaumont-tiles.com.au/All-Pr ... ni&pspid=1

Polar White Cabinets, Oyster benches, Cold Steel Splashback (and Snowy Mountain Half which are our walls)
We also got confirmation that our light switches will be LeGrand Excel Life, which are sooooo much nicer than the Clipsal Iconic range.
Also added a couple of electrical items during the week- we had ceiling fan provisioning added to all 5 bedrooms to circulate air on the stinking hot nights we get here in Melbourne during the summer, so we don't need to run the A/C all night (i.e save a bit of money), and changed our powder room light and fan switching to a passive infrared switch with timer, so guests (and children) don't need to fumble around for a light switch, nor do they need to remember to go back to turn off lights! I reckon the PIR will be the best $135 we'll spend in the build!
We also sorted out our cabinets in the kitchen, which weren't geometrically balanced and would have driven me nuts with my OCD. Our overheads will now all be 900mm wide with double doors.
Now we just need to get to site
