We got quoted today for 600 x 600 Santorini White GL-Porc tiles, which we're thinking we'll go with instead of the engineered timber boards as well as saving the cost of skirting after flooring as well. Also added a couple of electrical items during the week- we had ceiling fan provisioning added to all 5 bedrooms to circulate air on the stinking hot nights we get here in Melbourne during the summer, so we don't need to run the A/C all night (i.e save a bit of money), and changed our powder room light and fan switching to a passive infrared switch with timer, so guests (and children) don't need to fumble around for a light switch, nor do they need to remember to go back to turn off lights! I reckon the PIR will be the best $135 we'll spend in the build! We also sorted out our cabinets in the kitchen, which weren't geometrically balanced and would have driven me nuts with my OCD. Thanks, we're happy - the selections, we were very careful to make choices for colours that won't date or fall out of vogue. Our tiles look like this against our wall colours, with the floor being the lighter colour (the photo isn't my handiwork, I'll try to get another one at some stage) Electrical is an easy change - they seem a lot more relaxed about changing electric items than structural Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our Bayside KDR Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78298 Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 105Feb 09, 2018 6:23 pm Drew01 This week we got our building approval come through!! Our Bayside KDR Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78298 Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 107Mar 07, 2018 2:20 pm How on earth would taking out a tree kill her lawn? Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 108Mar 07, 2018 6:23 pm blackcat20 How on earth would taking out a tree kill her lawn? Went to take out our work zone permit today, which is going to be a costly exercise due to a small wedge of land in front of our block still somehow being owned by the council. Looks like we're going to have to buy about 30 sqm of land that's currently gazetted road or pay about $20k to use it during the build. We can't even claim adverse possession, because it's currently on council title and the laws don't apply Our Bayside KDR Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78298 Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 109Mar 08, 2018 7:02 am I’ve never heard of this Drew! How is this different from the nature strip which is council owned land and often gets used/ stuff dumped on it during a build? Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 110Mar 08, 2018 11:09 am Dani_J I’ve never heard of this Drew! How is this different from the nature strip which is council owned land and often gets used/ stuff dumped on it during a build? so our block of land is a rectangle (mostly) and the road has a bend in it to the right as you go past, where the road bends, there is a triangle of land that has been abandoned by the council and has been considered the garden of our property for over 70 years. Now we want to "use" it, they want us to pay for the privilege... it's completely insane - the cynic would say a money grab Our Bayside KDR Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78298 Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 111Mar 08, 2018 4:32 pm That seems crazy to me! Have you got a conveyancer or someone to look into this for you? Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 112Mar 08, 2018 4:38 pm Dani_J That seems crazy to me! Have you got a conveyancer or someone to look into this for you? yeah - I spoke with my cousin who's a property law specialist, and we're kinda screwed - long term it will work out ok for us, as it will improve the resale value of the property as it will be over 900 sqm, but purchasing that piece of land and combining the titles isn't a cost we'd anticipated having to spend at this time Our Bayside KDR Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78298 Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 113Mar 08, 2018 4:45 pm Yeah I bet you weren’t expecting that! Are they being "reasonable" for what they are asking $$ to buy the little piece of land or are they being ridiculous? Market value based on our rates notice is about $7k less I suppose if you buy it they cannot argue with you any further and it will only increase your value.... but what a pain! Re: Building Bayside : Our Glendale 45 118Mar 21, 2018 11:34 pm This week's update. Got our Work Zone Permit approved today - there goes nearly $7k we didn't anticipate spending... We also removed all our tiles that aren't required for C of O, and saved about $30k ... We'll buy the tiles we like in the end of financial year sales, and find a tiler to do a cashy before we move in. Also had a distasteful email encounter with our neighbour who owns the rental next door, who denied us access to have the garage wall bricked from his side of the boundary, and "forbade us" to make any contact with his tenants, and refuses to have any contact with him via any means other than email. Best hope he never needs anything from us in the future!!! Should have our final VO tomorrow, and to site ASAP!!
