The plans I posted aren't quite the final, we've made aesthetic improvements particularly to exterior but they show we aren't working with big bathrooms. We think we can make it work though. We wanted to devote our floor space to living areas. Re: our custom knock down rebuild - Newcastle NSW - exterior 43Jul 22, 2015 12:33 am Old house is sitting as a frame since yesterday and I understand we are waiting on clearance for asbestos removal. I'm keen to see them knock the frame down! One great thing about being on maternity leave is I can wheel the pram past every day ha ha, we don't live far from the site.
Re: our custom knock down rebuild - Newcastle NSW - demoliti 45Jul 30, 2015 12:13 am The parts of the frame which were recyclable are now gone and the house demolished to its foundations. We know it's not families either side, as they are lovely but two complaints, one to the EPA and one to the council were made about the site. Both groups came out to inspect and found the complaints incorrect. Our neighbour even took the decision to call the council and say exactly how tidy and professional the contractors have been! Re: our custom knock down rebuild - Newcastle NSW - demoliti 46Aug 04, 2015 1:37 am We're playing around with better bathroom layouts. We don't like opening onto the shower but other layouts also hAve issues here and there. At the moment we are looking at this. We want a big shower and vanity. We looked at a wet area concept with vanity, then shower and bath on same wall but not sure if this will really work with bathing kids and it would need a step up.. Sore toes! So looking at this option right now.. What about the bath on the same wall as the shower (with the shower door opening towards the entry door) and the vanity at the end? That's how ours is arranged and ours is a similar shape to yours, just slightly smaller. You can see our plans in the first page of my thread. Yes I'm not sure what the clearance is - though we did change it as there wasn't enough clearance with the other one. We definitely won't open onto a toilet - separate powder room. Yes, well that is the other option and in fact our original plan opens onto the shower like that. The shower is smaller in that plan though, a cubicle style. Maybe we thought there wasn't enough room shower and bath on same wall, if we wanted a bigger shower. I will look at your plans, thanks! I'm not too sure about having the vanity at the window though, the view is ugly that side.. Re: our custom knock down rebuild - Newcastle NSW - demoliti 50Aug 07, 2015 10:29 am Yayyy! Your knockdown happened so quick! Glad to hear they will be getting the slab down soon. Is the garage the only part of your house with a slab? Re: our custom knock down rebuild - Newcastle NSW - demoliti 51Aug 07, 2015 2:41 pm Abztronic Yayyy! Your knockdown happened so quick! Glad to hear they will be getting the slab down soon. Is the garage the only part of your house with a slab? Yeah they weren't mucking about. The concretors actually told me they were booked Tuesday but they were delayed slightly. They took it apart for recycling and the rain delayed them at least three days. They were then working Saturdays. Yes the garage is the only slab. The house is on bearers and joists as there is a slope of about 1.2 metres. To cut and fill would have meant more retaining and we would likely have need up with a double story due to the setbacks needed from retaining. This way there's less retaining and we can have a split level. The only room on the split is the living room up about six stairs as shown. The rest is all one level though garage is also about six stairs down. We still preferred that to a double story. It was getting that all right which is part of the reason we went custom. I might have been ahead of myself but they have definitely been laying reo (reinforced steel) for the foundations today. Can't wait to see it all start happening I'm so excited it's unbelievable lol. Got to love neighbours! I feel your pain. We spent 12 weeks unjustified in council due to a complaint and then those same neighbours dobbed us into the council for putting their own dirt back on their own land after we had permission. Add to that another neighbour taking photos of the road where a small amount of dirt had spilled. Haven't these people got better things to do???? As for you knock down rebuild. How fast was that! Looking forward to seeing your slab down. Looking forward to seeing your slab down. Yes and after they wasted people's time the complaints were found totally unjustified. The site is actually very tidy. Some people just don't like change. Looks like the garage slab won't be long! They've dug out all the trenches for the bearers and joists. They're bumping the trades in like clockwork with little to no downtime. Hopefully garage slab will be poured soon! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The slab for the garage mid way through completion, hasn't been honed. I was pleased to see the builder had turned up and was doing a check of work on site. I was at the joiner finalising details for the kitchen today and they said the builder had suggested 18 Dec as an install date. They're not likely to be keen to start a job right in be last week of Christmas so depending on how we progress it may be first back in the new year for the kitchen to go in. How much work is normally needed after that?
