This! I think the question, for ebanster, could be how long you're planning on staying in the house. Trends change, if you go for brick now & set aside the extra money the cladding or render would have cost, then if you move out in 10 year's time spend the money then to make the house more saleable by making it match the trend when you're selling? We're planning on staying where we are for 20+ years, so we've simply gone with brick & as little of anything else as possible; to reduce maintenance, and because if we'd gone for a fancy rendered finish now we'd be painting every 10 years and the colours would be out of date within 5 anyway. based on my current budget, i am planning to stay there forever that's basically my dilemma now, i reckon bricks would be less maintenance compared to claddings though in terms of aesthetics, claddings looks really good. i want that wall to be a highlight of my house. so you're saying cladding would cost more? what kind of cladding should I use as the builder was saying he won't use the standard one for warranty purposes.
