Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 26, 2015 2:36 pm Hi all, New to these forums and looking for advice/learnings of what to do or not to do going forward. My parents currently have a family home on a 20x55m block in Melbourne's North-West. Current median price for a house in this suburb is 940k - however if they sold up they are told we would get around 1.6mil. However, all parties involved would love to stay in the same exact location and build 4 units and keep the back single storey unit for my parents, sell one to myself at a slightly discounted price then take the other two to market. Leaving my parents with a home to live in and some cash to retire on. We have approached a builder that we know and have just received 2nd draft of our drawings back from the designer. Anybody else on here done or know anyone who has done something similar? Good idea / bad idea? At the moment the numbers look OK for my parents to retire on but I am obviously concerned for them as they have had the house a long time and no other investments etc to rely on.
