Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 24, 2015 12:52 am Hi all, Building with HGWA now. We were given the choice or Unicote or Colorbond steel roof. http://www.combinedmetalind.com.au/products/unicote Apparently Unicote gives extra 5 years longer warranty compared to Colorbond, hence why HGWA prefer them now . Any idea if they're any good? Only ever heard of colorbond that's all Thanks! Re: Unicote or Colorbond Steel roof? 2Jun 25, 2015 6:23 am I've not heard of Unicote either! Perhaps email them and ask where you can view the product or examples of their product? Questions to be asked - Where is Unicote made and why does it give better life? Must admit when I started asking Bluescope about some issues I had with our colourbond roof they were less than helpful so an alternative for future use would be good to know about. They probably will show me the sample, but for average joe...don't think we can tell the difference.. What issue did you have with your colorbond roof? So bluescope made colorbond product then ? Re: Unicote or Colorbond Steel roof? 6Jun 25, 2015 6:26 pm Yep, Bluescope produce Colourbond. We have issues with very small rust spots which I reckoned were rust pits. The Bluescope people told me it was not pits but caused when the builder cut the sheets with an angle grinder and the small bits of steel coming off the colourbond landed on adjacent sheets and rusted. Basically I believe the rust is small pits and they tell me that it's actually only surface rust of particles from the angle grinder. I sent them pictures they still denied there was an issue. Conversation with them was a waste of time. Re: Unicote or Colorbond Steel roof? 7Jul 01, 2015 2:30 am Unicote is imported, from an Asian country, I know that. I read it from a previous post regarding HGWA. Building our first home - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75306 Re: Unicote or Colorbond Steel roof? 9Jan 13, 2016 11:21 am UniCote is a direct competitor to ColorBond. It offers the same warranties that ColorBond does and performs the same. It is from Korea, from the Dongkuk Steel company (formerly Union Steel). and supplies allot of the biggest manufactures of shipping / Automotive manufacturers from around the world in America, Europe, Korea, Vietnam and Japan etc. We all have used their product without knowing it and it has existed in Australia for some 15 years, (longer in the automotive industry) , as a standalone painted coil product that is rolled into whatever product you need, guttering, down pipe, roofing, fencing, flashing etc. When considering a choice between ColorBond and UniCote, do not hesitate either way, they are great products that are proven and tested and are backed by fantastic warranties Re: Unicote or Colorbond Steel roof? 12Oct 09, 2016 12:59 pm Hi All, It seems there is a bit of uncertainty around UniCote®, so i would like to clear a few things up for everybody. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10228 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 18579 |
