Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 281Jul 28, 2008 12:58 pm Bel, 'Taylor's' are a well known tree removal co - I think they are Melbourne -wide. I'm surprised te demo co won't do it - ours just ran straight over a big Golden Ash on their way to the house which they then just drove straight through!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 282Jul 28, 2008 3:13 pm I thought I read on this thread that someone said that they thought you need to let the land settle before commencing the new house (sorry I'm sure I read this but now can't find it). Anyway I just wanted to say that a house was demolished up the road from me - 500m or so back in the Easter school holidays, house was there one day, gone the next, site cut done the day after and then the formwork done for the slab. PD has built this house. People moved in last weekend, it took approx 15 weeks (I think I counted right ). So in this case there was no waiting between old and new. Happy at Home Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 283Jul 28, 2008 10:06 pm Thanks Petal - Ill give them a call Building company said something about insurance/liabilty etc..
Toni - Good thinking I'll give K a buzz and see what she thinks then I might re-schedule the colour to before tender, it seems silly to have it after Thanks for that info on demolition too, i think someone else mentioned it was a bit of a myth My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 284Aug 13, 2008 11:08 am Eeek! I was on the 3rd page!! Better get some stuff happening!!
Minor update, Settlement is scheduled for tomorrow at 2:30pm, I have been madly organising demolition companies, tree removalist and abolishment of gas/electricity services!! We have decided to go with Absoloute Demolition - the quote was the cheapest by a long way, and they seem to have a fairly good name. We are currently in contact with Taylors to get a quote on removing the large tree at the front of the property... The person who is selling us the property is being a real PITA! I rang the real estate to ask who the person was with for electricity/gas so I could get the ball rolling and he said she was being very difficult and would not tell us!!! Ummm hello how old are we? 5? Seriously what does it matter!! I can't understand some people So he suggested I just ring around to all the companies and try and figure out who they were with, so I take a punt and try AGL first - turns out they are with AGL for gas but not electricity. So I do a quick google search and the name for electricity that comes up first is Origin, so I give them a call and low and behold - they are with Origin for electricity!! So it only took me 2 phone calls when it could have taken me up to 10!! I am getting all the forms sent out so hopefully it will all be under way soon. I have also been in touch with our lovely CSC 'K' she is so nice and so helpful, I feel like I am forever adding/removing items on the house and nothing is too much hassle for her Currently I am trying to get the final tender organised, for the appointment in 2 weeks time! Not much else to report, I will try and get some pics up of the old house/demolition - when it all takes place! My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 285Aug 13, 2008 12:42 pm Good luck with settlement tomorrow...
Great that you found the gas and electricity people easily! Pity about the 'seller'. They should just be happy and help... why are some people like that??? When our house came down, we made it there to see! They were still going after I got the 2 older kids from school and our neighbour gave us a birds eye view from their top balcony! It was great, but we did have lots of memories attached - but we certainly were celebrating as that house came down too!! ENJOY DEMO day when it happens.. its the start of the beginning... Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 286Aug 13, 2008 1:59 pm Hi Bel
Good luck for tomorrow! I can't believe the seller - what does it matter?? WHAT is the problem??? Like you need to be ringing every electricity provider in the state the day before settlement! Lucky you're a nice person - that's why you got it in 2 phone calls! I'm so glad your CSC is a good one - she sounds very helpful (....can they move her to Prestige East????? ) Roll on demolition day!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 289Aug 13, 2008 5:30 pm Thanks everyone - i know the seller is a crazy woman!! I don't know where people get off being so rude!
We haven't got a demolition date yet, as they can't do anything until gas/electricity is removed - which can take up to 21 workind days, so I'd probably say in a month at the earliest I got a call from the people doing the soil test/land survey and they are coming out Friday morning and so is Taylors Tree removal to give us a quote for the tree, so praying its all good news!! Petal - I would love to share her with you, but only if you promise not to work her too hard, don't want her slipping from me!! I haven't even met her, but her communication via phone calls/emails is first class. She always gets back to me within a matter of minutes and has done so much to help us achieve all our upgrades My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 290Aug 13, 2008 5:35 pm Well, I'm glad she's been good to you - it's good to hear that they do have some customer-friendly staff!
Hmmmmm......maybe she's a Hawks supporter....... Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 291Aug 13, 2008 5:38 pm I'm not even sure she knows who DH is! Unless the sales guy told her
We are more worried that the builders/plumbers/chippies will be opposition supporters and do a shabby job because they hate Hawthorn! I told DH he should stay away from the house when they are there in case My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 292Aug 13, 2008 6:00 pm Good luck for tomorrow, won't be long now until you see that house come down and a new one go up.
Don't worry about the owner, her nose is probably out of joint because you are pulling "her" house down. She probably can't understand why it's not worth keeping. She just needs to let go and move on. Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 293Aug 13, 2008 6:03 pm Thanks photogirl - i never actually thought of it that way, but it would amaze me if that was the reason as she actually rents the house out to other people, her husband and her have a business in the area where they rent out these old houses to people who are staying in the area for a short while, so I wouldn't think she would have an emotional tie to the house but you never know
I actually thought it might have more to do with the fact we got the house for $40k less than they wanted for it My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 294Aug 13, 2008 6:55 pm Well done on the price, that would probably be the reason. Bit mean though, she has enough houses, you only wanted one. Wouldn't have hurt her to help you out a bit. What is it with some people, it doesn't take any effort to pass on a bit of information, epecially just the name of the utility provider. Well she will be out of your hair soon and it's all yours then. Well done. Re: Our Cremorne 41..Demolition started!! 295Aug 13, 2008 7:03 pm Hi Bel,
