We are building in Adelaide Alisa Oh and I dont think the builder will supply a modem, that's a 'consumer' item. Buy yourself or from your ISP (Internet Service Provider eg. Optus, Dodo, Internode, Telsta) or D!ck Smith etc Re: NBN 4Jun 17, 2015 11:22 pm The previous Government did fund it ... They paid for all the fibre to be run throughout the streets which is a HUGE cost We are the lucky ones (you and me) to have got it in our new estates before this Govt put the brakes on it We homeowners have to pay for the little bit to connect it from the street into our houses. It will be worth it I think $1200 is a bit rich for that, but what can you do? Bit hard to put it in your walls later. But you could get a plastic conduit run on the external wall of your house, or up through the ceiling, around skirting boards ... thinking 'creatively' here Re: NBN 5Jun 17, 2015 11:26 pm Actually, it would probably cost you more than $1200 to do post build. Yeah, everything is expensive eh! Re: NBN 6Jun 18, 2015 2:38 pm We had a quote for around 1200 for a package number 2 which included the conduit, power point etc and also the hill hub. I just got the basic package for approx 750 which was the conduit through slab, and points etc. Pretty pricey but to pay someone later on to dig up the ground and run it all would probably cost that plus some I believe Re: NBN 7Jun 19, 2015 6:58 am Guyz a very good word of advice. Make sure that when the electrician are connecting your NBN boxes that they don't terminate your wireless modem connection in the garage because what that will mean is your wireless modem from your Service provider will be sitting in the garage and if you are to use wireless devices like tablets, iPhone or laptops, you will have a very poor wifi connection . So make sure the electrician runs the terminate point into your house so that your modem from your provider (Telstra or Optus e.t.c) will be inside the house. So many builder get this really wrong and the recommendation requirement from NBNco is not to terminate connection in the garage because of poor signal. |
