Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 17, 2015 5:23 pm I've put my toe in the water with a few posts but figured I should start a thread on our house build considering there doesn't seem to be many here building with Cachet? We are on 10 acres in Serpentine and have been living in our little old farmhouse for 6 yrs waiting to get the $ together to build our dream home. We signed with Cachet in February and after going through all the shire approvals and to-ing and fro-ing with all the paperwork we think we signed the final variation last week So far Cachet have been quite flexible and accommodating although they do seem to lack knowledge of requirements for builds on rural properties. This has caused some delays in our building approvals however they are a fairly new company so I guess we can cut them some slack :p We've decided to provide our own tap ware and basins /toilets etc so we need to decide on that stuff plus our tiling for our kitchen splash back, other than that everything seems to have been decided! Now we have fingers crossed we see earth works and a pad down soonish :0 Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 3Jun 19, 2015 12:11 am Looks great Camowen77 looking forward to following your progress Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66620 Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 5Jun 23, 2015 10:29 am Congrats on starting your journey to build your dream home, looking forward to following Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 6Jun 29, 2015 4:31 pm Getting very jealous reading through all the threads and seeing everyone's lovely homes going up No start date for earth works yet but our builder promises he'll have it by the end of this week. ... fingers crossed! We spent last week on the bob cat removing our old water tank and stand from house pad site. Today I ordered our ovens from Harvey Norman. Ordered some pendant lights from Temple and Webster for the kitchen also Just want to start buying stuff already ! I'm also still hunting the perfect splash back tile for the kitchen if anyone has any ideas? ATM we have a white subway tile which we considering laying in herringbone. Our floor tile is dark grey, bench tops very light and cupboards light grey. Have also been hunting a greyish subway tile or maybe one with grey marbling through it? Can't seem to source any from anywhere though? Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 7Jun 30, 2015 12:21 am I have a friend who built with Cachet, rural place too. They were very happy with them as a builder and the final product. They would be coming up to 2 years in their place with no issues. Your central area with raked ceilings will look sensational. Great design Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 10Jul 14, 2015 12:01 pm I think they might be sensing our impatience and popped the sign there to keep us happy for a bit it's worked ha ha. We just picked up our ovens and rangehood, tapware and basins and the electrical stuff so feels like we are getting ahead of ourselves but at least somewhat organised ? Still hunting the perfect kitchen splashback tile though ! Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 11Jul 28, 2015 1:27 pm soooo I think its been around 7 weeks now since our file was handed to construction and our first deposit paid...and still nothing happening :/ I'm usually good at the patience thing but this is testing me :p I DID meet with the fellow that is booked to do our earthworks last Thursday and we pegged out the house area etc so that was good - I can now stare at marked out house and try and avoid running over pegs daily. Still no dates on when anything might be starting but I live in hope I might see at least earthworks done before the end of August? We signed in February and we were told 9 months from then our house would be done . Since reading this forum I've since learnt its probably normal for 6 months of paperwork and then at least another 9 months from then for build to happen - so glad I have that knowledge or I'd probably be going insane thinking it will never happen. In the meantime.. its a beautiful day.. Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 14Aug 06, 2015 12:00 am Great news!! How exciting to see something happening You must be feeling very pleased! Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 16Aug 06, 2015 7:05 am I love your plan- especially how everything opens out from the big living area. Look forward to seeing your progress. If it makes you feel any better- we have been waiting 20 months(!!) to start. We bought land in November 2013 and had significant (understatement) delays due to BAL restrictions. We are expecting earthworks early next week so are on a similar timeline to you from here. 11/11/13- dep paid 4/4/14- settlement Feb '15- DA app 6/8/15- CC site works begin 19/8/15- Formwork 25/8/15- slab 3/9/15- elect. appt 13/10/15 - frame started 19/10- bricks started 31/10 - roof done Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 17Aug 06, 2015 9:34 pm Oooo that's a bugga caff we were honestly expecting massive delays after our BAL rating too but it came back pretty good so thankfully no major changes ! Fellow doing the sand today had a slight hiccup - I was pretending for a while I hadn't seen he was bogged until I could see he had no chance without help :p think he owes someone a carton lol Re: Serpentine Build - with Cachet Homes 18Aug 06, 2015 11:25 pm Camowen77 Oooo that's a bugga caff we were honestly expecting massive delays after our BAL rating too but it came back pretty good so thankfully no major changes ! Fellow doing the sand today had a slight hiccup - I was pretending for a while I hadn't seen he was bogged until I could see he had no chance without help :p think he owes someone a carton lol That carton currency certainly comes in handy Our BAL initially came back FZ on 3 sides and BAL 40 on the front. We were devastated and went through every avenue to change it. In the end, we had to modify the design slightly and move it by 1 metre(!) to reach BAL 40 on 3 sides and 29 on the front. To be honest that all seems a distant memory now that we've started. Our earthworks actually started today:) 11/11/13- dep paid 4/4/14- settlement Feb '15- DA app 6/8/15- CC site works begin 19/8/15- Formwork 25/8/15- slab 3/9/15- elect. appt 13/10/15 - frame started 19/10- bricks started 31/10 - roof done Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
