Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 16, 2015 7:33 pm Hi I'm looking for some advice on what building company to go with. I've heard mixed reviews on several of the big company's sterling homes, hickinbotham, Fairmont homes etc.. Who would you recommend if you have used any in the past? And who you wouldn't recommend? Thanks in advance Re: What company would you recommend to build? 2Jun 16, 2015 9:19 pm Hi Tttttsh, Check out www.beforeyoubuild.net.au and they might be able to help you. They provide personalised service to homeowners to help them manage the risks of building and help them understand the building process. One of their services is conducting builder checks. Anyways, just thought to let you know. Good luck Cheers, Bonnie Re: What company would you recommend to build? 3Jun 16, 2015 9:44 pm PS: I didn't build with big companies. I built with the builder called Gold Ruby Homes and they were fantastic! I cannot recommend them enough. Though, I think they only build in ACT area and nearby NSW Re: What company would you recommend to build? 4Jun 16, 2015 10:22 pm Go look at their show homes and talk to their sales people to ask the questions you need answered. Then come in here and follow some builds. I would never take posts on review sites as genuine. A lot of faceless/nameless people like to spread unsubstantiated bad comments. The people on here who are actually building are pretty transparent. Not hard to pick fakes. Just look at how long they've been here and how they contribute. Once you're on the way, start your own blog or thread to help others decide ... in the same position you're now in. Good luck and enjoy the ride Re: What company would you recommend to build? 5Jun 17, 2015 8:21 am Pretty much all builders will have mixed reviews, because customers have mixed experiences and expectations. Just the experiences of the build are different, and the effect of different site supervisors. Some companies have particular cultures though - in particular, the larger builders generally force you into a more specific path with little room for you to have any influence, and some may suffer from communications problems more than others. Re: What company would you recommend to build? 6Jul 03, 2015 6:12 pm Hi there, i am currently building with Sterling for the first time. after my experience, i would say hickinbotham will probably get the house built quicker. i have friends that had slabs go down at the beginning of September and handovers just before Christmas. Sterling however has a 26 week building time. my build hasn't been straight forward at all so i have been waiting since july 2013 for my house and am not expecting it before Jan 2016, this is due to having to sell a block and wait for them to bulldoze a school and create the block i am purchasing off them. therefore you're land will also play a factor in which builder is best for you. if you have a straight forward block then any of this builders you mentioned should be ok just a matter of waiting for the house, but if you have a challenging block, maybe you need to shop around i am also paying for high ceilings, upgraded bench tops, ducted air- where as statesman and hickinbotham often have promos including these for free : ) Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic). Good area, atrocious floor plan. BUT has land out to the left-hand side that we can extend out on (see second… 0 8729 Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
