Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2015 10:05 am Hello just wondering if you can help me out! Im building my first home and im stuck with the orientation of the house. I live in perth and the house will be north facing. Its on a ever so slight hill so looking at the house, the block to the left is 1 retaining block lower and the block to the right is 2 retaining blocks higher. So at the moment this is where windows are located: North Main bedroom East (this part is 1.5m from the fence) Ensuite office living bedroom laundry South (house is 2.5m from the fence) Bedroom bathroom West (this is where most of the backyard is) bedroom theatre dining alfresco. To get into the backyard you go out the dining and the alfresco is right there. If i was to keep it like this whats tho pros/cons?? Not too sure how to attach a pic? That would probably help more haha.. thanks in advance!!! Re: House Orientation - Newbie Please Help! 2Jun 14, 2015 10:33 am Quote: Not too sure how to attach a pic? Extensive information but well worth the long read. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55057&hilit=cool+in+summer Re: House Orientation - Newbie Please Help! 6Jun 14, 2015 9:50 pm Thanks for the link guys.. i tried to understand it but nost of it really confused me haha i have no idea about this stuff but from what i gathered i should flip the house so the backyard isnt in the west where the summer sun sets?? Re: House Orientation - Newbie Please Help! 7Jun 14, 2015 10:30 pm The orientation for that house isn't too bad. Sun from the west is a major problem causing overheating. The large alfresco will provide a lot of protection from the afternoon sun in summer to the dining/living room. The problem windows will be the home theatre and the bedroom. If it was me I would look to minimise the size of the windows in these rooms, and use a highly reflective film on the windows after completion. (alternativly you could see about moving the bedroom window to the south wall) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: House Orientation - Newbie Please Help! 8Jun 14, 2015 10:51 pm Great idea bashworth about moving that bedroom window. In relation to the bathroom window a film would assist for sure. As for the west facing brickwork. I like the idea of a wire trellis on the brickwork with a creeper to protect the brickwork from the severe summer sun in the afternoon. Even maybe some screening in panels to provide shading for the wall. I am going to have one small window on ensuite facing the west and will solar film it. The rest of the brick wall I would like to look at some sort of shading as I suggested. So I am in a simalar boat to the OP Re: House Orientation - Newbie Please Help! 9Jun 15, 2015 9:50 am Thanks guys do you think it will be ok in winter and get some morning sun?? I was hoping it would come in through the living rooam and office windows, specially with the block nextdoor being lower on that side.. but thenagain it is quite close to the fence so im not sure!! 0 224 a building inspector should be able to tell you about any major problems but we need a floor plan with dimensions to clarify options for extra bedrooms ... sometime an… 1 8718 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 |
