Building with Metricon

Hi everyone I would like some advice. My build is approx 120 days overdue and doesn't looks like it will be finalised soon. I understand we get paid $30 a day in damages but what else can be done to? Can any extra claims be made? Who external to M could I complain to? Department of fair trading? Just some issues continue to be pushed back and causing more delays.

Hi Nev, Re: compensation I've sent you a msg.

Re: finishing your build here is some advice.

Our build has now been taken over by a man named Paul. He is on light duties with Metricon due to injury but is very very experienced.

They sent him out to babysit our site whilst tradies are present as they kept getting everything wrong when they would come out to fix stuff.

We accidentally met him onsite on Tuesday and he spent hours going through every issue on our site with us.

He wrote everything down and is now getting issues fixed that were outstanding for months.

He has rung me every day this week to give updates and has achieved more in 4 days than our last site supervisor achieved in months.

We have had a chronic problem throughout the build with tradies taking weeks to turn up to fix issues and then not addressing them properly when they got out to site.

He has ensured he is on site every day checking their work and making sure everything is spot on.

We are finally realistically on track to handover. Once we handover perhaps you can suggest to Metricon that this is the guy you need.

Welcome to our new Metricon Henderson

Aww Neville I hope you get back on track soon , what's been the issues?
We're coming up to our contract date and wish we'd increased the amount in our contract they need to pay us daily, it won't even cover accommodation never mind storage of our goods...

Does Paul's surname begin with S? We have a Paul looking after our build and we aren't having the same experience so thought I'd see if it's the same person

Numerous delays with no one onsite, change in SM, things being installed poorly or incorrectly and things completely missed. Also not getting fixed correctly and so have to be redone.

Thanks for sharing those photos Renman, gorgeous house ☺

No I think his surname starts with a P. He's an older man.

Hi guys, hope everyone's been well here. Been away from the forum for about 3 weeks now, as we were overseas. In the meanwhile, our handover was completed, although i only got the keys yesterday owing to bank transfer taking a while before it reflected on the builder's account and we being away during the period in between.

All in all, our build commenced on 5th December, with a handover around the mid of May. There was a 2 week lull during the Xmas break, but otherwise, i must say I've had no complaints with my build or SM. Kudos to the way M manages its builds and tradies in QLD!

While away, I also got the driveway and side path concreting completed, which looks to have come out pretty well too. Now need to organise fencing, landscaping and then the packing n moving task.

Hi All,

It seems that M have decided to save a few pennies and only half sheet wet areas in Villaboard.

I was rather surprised by this as I was told all wet areas would be sheeted with Villaboard not plasterboard.

Anyone else have the same issue?

1) Laundry

2) WC to Ensuite

Cheers Nom

Wow how did you even pick on that?
Our gyprock was in last week and we can't even figure whether all required insulation was in.. Won't know the difference between the boards..
Wonder how much our lack of knowledge is impacting on us not being able to pick on what builder's missed..

Hi all, has anyone else had a terrible time with metricon. We have our keys, and the only thing in our house that's hasn't been replaced is our tiling. No kidding: I'm thinking of seeking legal damages against metricon.

That's why it's good to get an independent inspector.

No it's not just you, 6 months in and we're STILL having things repaired or replaced!
Including stacker doors 3 times, tiles to alfresco, roof tiles, front door, garage rear door, now probably the stairs AND the kitchen! There are heaps more lesser items I've just lost count. We've been so inconvenienced it's beyond a joke!

Omg that's terrible Phoenix and HGM!!! What's happened with all your things since the build that have needed them replaced HGM?

Everything you can imagine Kylz, from defective roof tiles that allows the water INTO the home, warped doors, defective front door, poorly laid tiles and sealant, defective stackers x 3, wrong sinks, wrong kitchen, faulty stairs, missed and faulty electrical works, etc etc there's just so much, my head is spinning just thinking about it all.
AND because of all their stuff ups we still haven't put any flooring down yet, because our home is just a constant construction zone

Omg sorry to hear that. Did they handover to you on the proviso that they would fix it or were these only found after handover?

Definitely getting one. Just wondering if they would be able to pick up something like no insulation behind the plaster?
