We have just done our internal selections and asked for them to build a half wall so we can install something like an XLR plus fireplace after hand over but It all seems a bit too hard... Just wondered if anyone had any experience? Also post Studio M/ internal selections appointment Metricon now do all built ins as Melamine and a rail not wire racking as previously standard in a Metro home - so good news there! One less upgrade needed! Re: Building with Metricon 82Jul 29, 2015 12:48 am Hey justmelwoo, have a look at deluded's thread, they are building in Sydney with alkira homes and they have had a gas fire place installed it looks amazing, I'm sure they won't mind sharing some info. Re: Building with Metricon 83Jul 29, 2015 8:02 am Hi justmelwoo, We had included a fire box in our initial estimate from memory it costs abt $10k -$12k took it out cost felt it was too expensive. The cost is dependent on if you are building a single story or double story. Installing a chute is costs more if you have your first floor above the fire place. We have a niche in our living with no double story above, I have installed a power point and gas outlet here so can install fire place sometime in the future if we want to. The costs would be about $7k. If you want to put a fireplace where there is a first story above then my advice would be to do it with M it is too messy + expensive afterwords viewtopic.php?t=78985 Re: Building with Metricon 84Jul 29, 2015 8:58 am Hi everyone, Is anyone getting the integrated kitchen waste bin? Is it expensive? Thanks. Re: Building with Metricon 85Jul 29, 2015 9:11 am Hi Boysenberry We did it cost about $275 not bad considering a bin like that would costs you about $200 at Bunnings and then you need to install it. We thought it was better done with the build.... Avoid the dramas of drilling a wrong hole in the cupboard and kicking ourselves for it! The good thing is one of the cupboards will be turned into a bin drawer that you can pull out. If you install one later it will be installed inside a cupboard. viewtopic.php?t=78985 Re: Building with Metricon 86Jul 29, 2015 9:19 am Franky40 The good thing is one of the cupboards will be turned into a bin drawer that you can pull out. We are quoted hafelle oska-h for $250. Just looking at alternative. We would love to have the one with pedal but I think it is gonna cost like over $1k. Re: Building with Metricon 88Jul 29, 2015 10:39 am Hi boysenberry. Sorry, I don't know what brand it is. I believe its a large bucket type thing in a drawer, where the drawer appears to be a normal cupboard face? No pedal. Will see what it turns out to be when the build happens I guess! I will just install later myself. IKEA also has a new range of WIR/closet systems in nice dark or light wood finishes so we are doing that after also for less than the cost of the white melanine StudioM options ORLANDO 28 - SYDNEY Re: Building with Metricon 92Jul 29, 2015 5:08 pm jazz_d Sounds great chuminh, where are you building? Sorry I'm not sure yet as we haven't started construction yet but I've heard good things. I'm not sure what an Intrax engineer is, is that an engineering qualification? Building Metricon Glendale 38 http://jazzyandluke.blogspot.com.au Re: Building with Metricon 94Aug 05, 2015 8:45 am Morning, some feedback from my fellow builders please, I'm going back and forth with M on a render issue and it's driving me a little loopy : Here is the front and side elevations of the house, the issue is on the side elevation (D) of Bed 1 upstairs which is followed by the Leisure Room. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As we're rendering the whole house, three weeks after our external colours appointment M are saying they can't wrap the feature render colour that we're having on our portico around the corner and then just have it meet up with the main render colour, otherwise they would need a junction box which they say won't look nice. I would prefer they extend the upper cladding to go right across the side of Bed 1 to meet the leisure room wall. They didn't say this couldn't be done, just that they would need to raise a variation, charge us for the extra cladding and redraw the plans. They suggested either stopping the feature render very slightly around the corner behind the downpipe and doing a junction box behind the downpipe; or extending the feature render all across Bed 1 to meet the Leisure room wall, I'm not happy with either of these. What do you guys think? i think they just want to do whatever option doesn't require them to redraw the plans, but we've paid the admin fee for other structural changes and they're currently redrawing them for that so I don't see what the issue is with my cladding preference (I'm happy to pay for more cladding)? Anyway, they should have realised this in the colour appointment, not now three weeks later. http://jazzyandluke.blogspot.com.au Building Metricon Glendale 38 http://jazzyandluke.blogspot.com.au Re: Building with Metricon 95Aug 05, 2015 8:55 am I tend to agree with your idea for wrapping the cladding around, it will break it up nicely. This is a Glendale 38 in an estate up the road from me, it has the exact same facade as mine but render on the bottom instead of brick, might help for you to see the cladding, i can snap a pic of the side of it so you can see how the cladding extends along the second story too if you like. We also had a similar issue with our render. We found out when our file was with the construction team we had to revisit our render ! The basic rules they work to are render is finished 1) where there is a down pipe or 2) corner where two walls meet. So we had to make some changes. I was not way too happy initially but now I actually like the new look we ended up with Our bed 5 and garage has the feature render stopping just around the corner with the down pipe. I was not too concerned as you can't really see the side of the house from the street. At the back we wanted the dining and rumpus walls have the feature render and the alfresco piers to also have feature render. Had to change it so that the whole alfresco also had the feature render, contrasted with surfmist piers. I think extending the render at the back won't look bad. Your feature render is darker and the so it will contrast with lighter render. I know it's annoying when these things happen. But if it's any consolation you are not alone viewtopic.php?t=78985 Re: Building with Metricon 97Aug 05, 2015 9:33 am Tribe7 I tend to agree with your idea for wrapping the cladding around, it will break it up nicely.
