Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 10, 2015 5:17 pm I'm currently building my first home and am already encountering some problems. The frame is up and they've laid the roof tiles. As the frame is up I decided to do a quick walk around. The walk in pantry is next to the laundry. They've run the piping too far and now the pipe is coming out of the floor into my walk in pantry. Issues: - Piping comes up out of the floor in the walk in pantry where my cupboards and bench top should be - No piping for the trough or washing machine provision in the laundry. Is this a huge disaster? Are my cupboards ruined now? Can someone give me any advice on what other things I should check now to ensure there are no more problems? Re: New build issues (first home) 2Jun 10, 2015 5:32 pm No biggie they will chisel up the slab and move the pipes to the right spot. It's very hard to measure pipes before slab to get them all spot on a lot of houses have to have pipes moved Re: New build issues (first home) 3Jun 10, 2015 5:39 pm At least half of our pipes ended up having to be moved. So that leaves only the kitchen, two showers & one toilet that was correct. This will definitely help me look at this more closely. I stopped by my build on the way home and had another quick look. It was already dark by that time but confirmed and picked up some more errors. - pipe in pantry not laundry - drainage pipe is sitting where the washing machine and linen cupboard will be - pipe for ensuite vanity is too far out from wall - fixed glass behind cook top / sink (in place of splashback) is clear instead of translucent On the positive though my bricks have arrived! I queried this with my builder and he said that there is an overflow in my basin which is why there is no overflow drain on the ensuite floor (other than the drain in the shower). Is this normal? For information my ensuite is only small so there is only a shower, toilet and vanity in there (no bathtub). Re: New build issues (first home) 12Jun 11, 2015 6:14 pm Hmm good question, we have one and our vanity doesn't have an overflow but I don't think that has anything to do with it as I am pretty sure the vanity wasn't chosen when the pipes were done. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: New build issues (first home) 13Jun 11, 2015 6:25 pm It is most likely state-dependent. Perhaps it's not required in your state? Or where I can go to find out more information? Just trying to find out if this is possible at all (to have the light switch above the tiling above the tub - as pictured)? At the moment the light switch is out near the powder entry. It's a small bathroom so quite limited in options! I can't be bothered finding the code but u can't use normal switches if they can be switched on whilst standing in a body of water. But can get around it by using a waterproof switch which is what we did Re: New build issues (first home) 18Jun 12, 2015 6:53 pm MrBee You can but must be water proof. Clipsal do one. I don't think they are troublesome but like above only 1 or 2 gang. What we had to do because we need 6 Gang was put the main lights on the waterproof as you walk in and the IXL on anothe switch next to the shower How many switches do you need on the plate?
