Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 31, 2015 10:19 am I am currently building a new home. The house is almost complete now and the slab has a lot of hairline cracks in it. There was a few when the slab was poured, but when i was there yesterday i can see a lot more. I also have a couple of areas with large lumps in the slab. Has anyone had similar issues. I am very concerned about the quality of the slab and think I may need to bring in a 3rd party to inspect the slab. Re: Slab issues 2May 31, 2015 10:24 am Hairline cracks are nothing to worry about as most slabs have them. It is when they develop into something bigger that is the worry. What do you mean by " large lumps in the slab " ? Some photos would help. Stewie Re: Slab issues 4Jun 01, 2015 12:58 pm Get a second opinion. Got any photos? There really are some shocking slab pours ive seen which needed to be ripped up. Many people overreact to little imperfections though. Re: Slab issues 5Jun 01, 2015 1:04 pm How old is the slab? Slabs will continue to develop hairline cracks. Soil Reports and Slab Engineering will sometimes note that brittle floor coverings, ie tiles, should not be installed for at least 6mths. Acutally I think the AS2870 says that too somewhere. As Stewie noted, I wouldn't be too perturbed by hairline cracks. Re: Slab issues 8Jun 01, 2015 7:13 pm The slab was poured November last year. The cracks are thin but almost every room in the house has a crack and some are over 5 metres long. The lumps are large bumps probably due to poor levelling. I looked at neighbouring houses and they all have similar cracks. Just seems like poor workmanship. I am in Perth. 12 5318 Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess. Trying to get some more information from our builder. 9 30236 I am looking at building a house. Has anyone used Construkt Homes (based in Adelaide)? Does anyone have experience with this builder? 0 6446 |
