Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 28, 2015 2:23 am My first post We are finalising the planning of our new home and our living areas have raked ceilings. Wondering if anyone has put anticon in or if anyone can tell me how essential you think it would be? Our builder didn't have it in the specs but it was mentioned to us it was worthwhile putting in, seeing the price tag we are a little hesitant! Any experiences would be most appreciated . Re: Anticon for raked ceilings? ? 2May 28, 2015 8:39 am I put it in on raked ceilings in the last house, but then I put the roof on myself, so the cost wasn't that much. That roof performed quite well. The normal advantages are noise, heat and condensation control. With raked ceilings, the heat and condensation probably aren't so much an issue as you will pretty much fill up the cavity with insulation anyhow. It does give the extra foil insulation though. In terms of noise, I think the insulation blanket right under the metal does help deaden rain noise, which may be a bit more of an issue with raked ceilings. Re: Anticon for raked ceilings? ? 3May 28, 2015 10:11 am Raking ceilings are excellent if done correctly. I was going to mention skylights for ventilation (as air's free)...but if you are having problems with the builders costings on insulation I would hate to think of what they'd charge for velux windows! You might want to consider having insulation blown in later as they do in wall cavities? I figured being raked (high) ceilings anyway it wouldn't so much be needed for the insulation factor but more for noise reduction? Its added approx 4.5k to the cost of the build for anticon in just our living area of the house . Re: Anticon for raked ceilings? ? 6May 29, 2015 12:05 pm I agree, having anticon 75mm for whole ceiling including raked. Custom build Northern NSW viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72217 Thanks mate.
