Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 27, 2015 9:03 pm Hi guys! i've been checking out this site for ages now but have never posted! My Partner and I are almost at the end of our build with Simonds homes! We loved our experiences with Simonds, they have honestly been great! This is why I am posting, to promote them Our build started in Feb this year and we are only 2 weeks away from moving in, it has gone so quick and seriously have been pretty stress free (besides me worrying about colours lol) We are so, so happy with how everything looks and the customer service they have provided. When ever something new is happening (almost every week) they have contacted us to let us know. I would really love to post some photos but i am unsure how to do so on here, can anyone explain? Thanks, Jess and Ryan Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 3May 28, 2015 11:19 pm You had better wait 6 months at least to find if any issues will come, friends had a similar build with Simmons and wow; big problems appeared in first few months they moved in, cracked walls, slab heave, , leaking pipes inside wall, too rushed a build. Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 5May 29, 2015 11:30 am I have a friend building with simonds her hubby is a tradie and has identified a few different issues which they have had to argue nail and tooth with. They loved their sales person but that's about it. Maybe you have a different site supervisor jayjay, where are you building? Not sure about pictures on here, haven't uploaded any myself. All the best I'm not sure you get any extra points for promoting simonds, but I'm Glad to hear some positive feedback on here, although I'm sceptical this is a sales person plugging the company. Just also wondering how long did they leave your slab to cure before they put frames up with such a short build time? Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 9May 30, 2015 8:38 pm Our build with Simonds was built in 19 weeks, site cut to keys. We had an independent inspector at every stage who picked minor issues that were rectified straight away. We have been in for 8 months now and are thrilled with our home. We live in a brand new street within a development. The key difference we noted with our build in regards to timing, was with Simonds there were trades on site EVERY DAY - and very frequently Saturdays and Sundays. Where as other builds sat untouched for days, sometimes weeks at a time. It wasn't as though our trades were racing in "against the clock" style and rushing the work, the project/time management was effective and no days were wasted. according to our trades, Simonds pay well and they don't struggle to secure workers - so no lull times waiting for brickies/painters/plasterers etc. The maximised the time and each day there was progress - that's your key difference. If the other builders had done that, they'd finish the homes in the ssame amount of time. Feel free to check out my thread - its genuine. My first build with Hickinb0tham homes took 7 months from site cut to keys and wasnot a quality build - it wasn't bad, but the extra time it took didn't make it better that's for sure! The reason it took 7 months wasn't due to fussy tradespeople spending multiple hours "getting it right" it was the fact the thing sat dormant for periods of time. There are many factors which make up a good build, time alone is definitely not enough to say whether it will decent quality or not! Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 10May 31, 2015 4:09 pm Your missing the point , ,simonds are telling porky pies by pretending on this forum, and by the way, 19 weeks is not 3 months, the lie is the build didn't happen, it's a salesmans ad;ask Simonds what's under their walls. Who would want a 3 month build, and I know some of their brickies who square they wouldn't go near then for their own home. Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 11May 31, 2015 4:37 pm With all due respect, I think we hear that about every builder at some point... "I know x, y, z who say they wouldn't touch builder a, b and c with a ten foot pole" Listening to hearsay gets you nowhere, employ and independent engineer/inspector at each stage - invest the money and sleep soundly. Listening to a guy/girl on a forum tell you about what some brickies said once is really an unwise way to get an informed opinion on whether or not your build will be decent. And FYI judging on our experience with Simonds I have no doubt that a post like this may indeed be genuine... Then on the flipside, it might be faker.than Pammy Anderson's chest... Dont build off the back of one person's experience on a forum (real or not), don't listen to countless "my mates neighbours brothers cousin knew a tiler who once saw a house get built with xyz homes and he reckons theyre Sh*t" - do your own research and employ experts to assist you with that stuff. A real or fake promo post should not influence a decision, so who cares? Ignore it. They all seem to do similar things all over the Goddamn internet. We had a great build.with Simonds but that doesn't mean everyone will... And just because someone had a bad one with a company doesn't mean you will either Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 12May 31, 2015 8:14 pm I know friends who brick for Simonds, not hearsay, actual trades working for them, slab barely dry before brickies start, , and real people I personally know whom have had a disaster of a build. Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 13May 31, 2015 9:17 pm I don't doubt it... But it isn't always the same for every single one of their builds. Especially state by state. Different trades and SS's. Just because your mate had a bad build with them doesn't mean someone else will... I didn't! Friends of ourswho also built with them 2 years ago when they first came over to Sa, didn't.... And just because we had a great build with them doesn't guarantee the next person will either! I.don't know & you don't know... So making claims otherwise is silly. You hear horror stories and good news stories from all builders, what I'm saying is one viewpoint (real, not real, good, bad or indifferent) isn't enough and shouldn't form anyone's final decision when choosing a builder. There is just too much conjecture. No one would build.with anyone if that were the case! I get you've got a bug up your ar$e about Simonds, your mate and the stories you've heard/experienced have clearly formed your opinion and that's fine... My opinion, experiences of friends and that of our structural engineer has been the opposite of yours. Does one viewpoint outweigh the other? no. It's opinion and personal experience and they happen to differ greatly. Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 15Jun 04, 2015 10:45 pm Deluxes, I enjoyed watching your build and several other Simonds builds on the forum eg. Cleo, Robba, the two boys at Munno Parra, Stephy, Brizzyguy, JustHeart to name a few. Thank you. Im grateful you posted about your experiences because you helped me with my decision to build with Simonds. JayJay, thank you for sharing your happy experience. I'm sorry your first post was responded to so rudely. Most of us are quite friendly here and we love sharing our experiences, good and bad. But mostly it's good. If you havent been turned off and are still lurking PLEASE pop in on my thread -- I'm still in the early stages so will be on the board for a while yet. Come say hello and I'll show you how to post photos and you can show me some of your lovely new home. Your bathroom is very pretty! You can find my build thread by clicking on the link in my 'signature' about building Simonds Avalon below. Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 16Jun 05, 2015 8:39 am I hope on all accounts you can return jayjay to discuss your build, as with my last post I would be keen to hear where you have built and all your colours of your home etc (we are at colour selection stage) and it's nice to get other people's ideas Re: Building with simonds homes is SA 17Jun 05, 2015 8:33 pm hmm maybe i shouldn't have used the term 'promote' :/ oh and thanks for the comment about the pic looking like a display home, i must have made some good selections lol I realise every build is different and some worse than others and don't get me wrong we have have a few minor issues such as the wrong shower screen being installed but they have ordered a new one already It is still in the building process, so for the comment 'i'd actually be concerned if my house was built in 3 months', it was'nt and has been 16 weeks so far and isn't complete yet. It is only a small home (1 living, 3 bedroom). They left our slab to cure for almost 2 and a half weeks, it was well dry before they started the frame. Anyways, my opinion still remains the same of Simonds, for now hopefully the rest of the journey stays good Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74219 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
