Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 28, 2008 5:33 pm Hi guys,
Were not having a good experience with our builder and are considering dropping them. This will cost us the two deposit payments totalling 2.5K but we think it worth it to go to a private builder. Has anyone done this, do you have any comments? Phil Samford Valley - Brisbane Re: Has anyone walked away from a M3tricOn contract and lived? 2Jun 28, 2008 6:21 pm Phil,
You're not alone.. it also happened ot us. We spent $3k+ due to our decision to move from one builder to another. First with PD, we paid $650 for the soil test.. but decided not to proceed when we saw another house. Then with AVJ, where we paid $2,500 for the soil test & prelim contract. We were at contract stage when something went sour between our relationship with our SC and the contracts admin. We didn't like how they were treating us when we were asking for some clarifications/corrections to the contract. We had a great relationship with our SC, the colour consultant and the contracts administrator.. and although we are having some issues during the build, it's all worth it because we love the house that we're building. $2,500 is a big money... but if it would mean potential headaches in the future, then by all means, walk away... that's my opinion though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Were you the one who was supposed to build a Liberty? So you're no longer proceeding with it? May i know why? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Has anyone walked away from a M3tricOn contract and lived? 5Jun 28, 2008 7:24 pm Hi VJ
Yes. We were going to build the Liberty but made the decision not to proceed basically because we reached a point where the total cost was going to exceed our budget. We have recently signed up for a renovation and extension to our existing home, comprising a new kitchen, family and meals area as well as an extra bedroom and study. So we are still lurking in the forum for advice in relation to our new project! Mrs D. Mrs D, Quote: Yes. We were going to build the Liberty but made the decision not to proceed basically because we reached a point where the total cost was going to exceed our budget. I understand. I thought the reason for cancelling the job was due to poor service by M. Liberty is a very nice house.. it was one of our choices but we ended up with the Nevada. Keep sharing your experiences here (lots of people would benefit from it) and asking questions about your project... keep us posted ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Has anyone walked away from a M3tricOn contract and lived? 8Jun 29, 2008 11:39 pm We've cancelled our build with a volume builder too (Sim0nds). We had a very bad experience. And we've decided to move to a custom builder. We got back 730 of the 1500 deposit. But we've still fighting for the 770 because they were supposed to give us soil test reports and "other stuff" they said they did. We believe nothing was done in 6 months of promises that's why we canceled. \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ prelim contract signed - status 9Jul 03, 2008 9:57 pm Hi guys,
Further to my last post. We have signed the prelim contract. Can anyone confirm our status with regards to our intended pull out? I assume this is not the full blown build contract, and thus easier to back away from? Any guidance would be appreciated. Phil Re: Has anyone walked away from a M3tricOn contract and lived? 10Jul 03, 2008 10:04 pm Yeah, you are not locked in. you can walk away. We were almost at final contract and had to change from double to single. We had payed $4000 and they transferred $2500 over to the new house. We lost $1500. I assume your situation would be similar.
But Brisbane M is a bit different to Melbourne M from what I understand. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Has anyone walked away from a M3tricOn contract and lived? 11Jul 04, 2008 8:28 am may I suggest you avail yourself of some good legal advice before breaking contract. Make sure there are no hidden "gotchas" that the lay person not versed in contract law will very easily overlook.
just my 2 bobs worth I've got a challenge here. Background is the builder has cut too deep for the slab and the slab is now below the very substantial retaining wall.
