Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 23, 2015 3:12 pm My block has only just registered and am thinking about public liability insurance. At the moment I'm looking at getting quotes for retaining wall and driveway so tradespeople will have to access the block shortly. I understand I may need insurance for these guys but what about kids riding bmx bikes on the block? I've seen a few riding and jumping over the blocks where retaining walls need to be built. Anyone else done this? Re: Vacant block and public liability insurance 2May 23, 2015 6:34 pm We got PL for our block as we have quite a few trees and after the big storms we just had didn't want to be liable if one of them fell on one of the houses being built next door. We went with http://www.landcover.com.au Re: Vacant block and public liability insurance 3May 23, 2015 6:54 pm If you are currently in a home and have house and contents or renters insurance check the policy details. I found that with aami renters insurance it extended you public liability insurance on any land you own with the intention of building on. So you may already be covered for it. Read the policy book if you havw home and contents, or renters insurance already. I just spoke with AAMI and confirmed that we are covered. I was told to read page 36 of product disclosure document full full terms and conditions. Vacant residential land, under 20 acres are covered for a period of 12 months from the time you became an owner! Well thanks to kavehman. I learned something new today!
