Is it true that there is a health risk associated with plantation shutters?
Which material is the safest?

This is in regard to the material the shutters are made of then the paint they use to coat it. There have been a few issues in the past where some MDF sheets that were imported from there had a much higher percentage of toxins in the glues ( formaldehyde too I think )and some of their paints weren't made to the same high standards we enjoy here. I think most shutters are made here in Oz anyway from local timber and coated with locally made paint. Just ask the supplier/builder/store where you are buying them from. We bought a cheap and nasty melamine desk for our daughter a couple of years ago in a flatpak form ( maade in China ) and already the white melamine coating is separating from the pineboard underneath.
