Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 21, 2015 11:12 am I have hijacked enough peoples posts so I thought I would start our own!
So we have secured a block of land in the waterglen estate of Blakes Crossing, 656sqm and we are going to be building a modified Baxter (though only a few changes made the layout remains pretty much the same). We signed a building contract on the 10th of may (mothers day) and we are currently waiting on our final plans. Soil report won't be done until late June as the developer have not finished their land works until then. Will be updating as things happen so others can see and share experiences along the way. I will upload out plan when I receive it back. Can't wait to see it, in the meantime we are looking around a flooring ideas! Thanks Heather Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 2May 26, 2015 11:18 am Hi Heatherkam! I missed your topic. Look forward to seeing your plan. Oh, and I saw your post on the general Fairmont thread. Do you have your variation yet? Don't freak out until you do. I know our soil will be 'P' soil as it is a KDR. Fairmont knew this when they gave us our estimate of $25k. I don't have my variation back yet so not sure if that will go up, but a 'P' soil can be really common. I know how hard it is to wait to find out whether your budget will be blown or not though! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 3May 26, 2015 6:00 pm What is a KDR sorry not up with all the lingo! No variation yet, but preliminary soil report is scarey and our sales lady is sick so couldn't chat with her and the land people are hunting down a compaction report as they didn't put fill on the block so it was there before they got the land. Sounds fishy, hopefully they have the certificate as this apparently changes the cost of the footings somehow. I like to hear about your build too so feel free to share your updates on this thread too:) Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 4May 26, 2015 6:19 pm KDR = Knock down rebuild Apparently because demolishing disturbs the soil or something they need deeper footings so it costs more. I have a thread now, my signature is below. Nothing much happening at the moment. We are waiting on our variation for footings which should be here in the next week or so. Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 5May 26, 2015 9:08 pm Thanks for that, I understand now, we must have signed around the same time, (I think I remember you reading that somewhere else) though our variation will be a while longer as they don't have site access until late June :/ waiting, waiting!! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 6Jun 27, 2015 8:27 am Just a quick update, our soil test has now been done and we are receiving our variation next week. Just FYI we had an issue with the land developer putting the wrong block number sign on our block which I tried to get fixed a while ago but still has not been done. Subsequently fairmont also put their post next to the sign lend lease put out so they are both on the wrong block!! Managed to confirm though with fairmont that they did soil test the right block even though they put the sign in the wrong spot! Such a small thing and so annoying could be Detrimental later if not fixed now.... Fingers are crossed our footings come in good, meanwhile council approval is next to go in very soon too. Glad we are progressing along through these time consuming stages! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 8Jul 23, 2015 9:36 am Quick update, council application is in as of the 15th of July. Apparantly takes 8 weeks. Also have our selections booked for the 14th august with direct interiors and 21st of august with supreme kitchens. Footing variation came back a bit high but we have been told because street kerbing and road Is not in yet (they started site works last week) that the final ground level is not accurate and so the cost of footings will come down as they won't need to dig so deep etc. Current footing design has said they would need to dig 850 deep but apparantly regular footing depth is 450 so fingers crossed the price comes down more so we have more to put into the kitchen! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 9Jul 28, 2015 9:41 pm I really like your plan Heatherkam! Lots of living space, and I love the cloak room. Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 10Jul 28, 2015 10:28 pm Thanks @bobbin we love it, with three growing children we need the space! Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 12Jul 29, 2015 7:47 am Haha I'm a green tea kind of girl so will save money on the coffee machine too 😉 Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 13Aug 11, 2015 8:29 pm So we did our electrical layout on Friday with clipsal. You don't have to go there but we chose to as I wasn't really confident filling it out ourself. Glad we went though as there was some lighting we wanted that couldn't get done after (something we found out there) this was the outdoor portico lights on the front of the house. There is a surcharge of about 120 each light but it was a non negotiable for us. We were given in our quote 28 lights and 21 power points, this is enough for 1 each room but when we are building a 300sqm house we definitely need more lights! We went with installing surface switches to later install (hopefully ourselves) our own LED downlights. The guy we saw was very helpful and ofcourse we spent money above what was in our contract the 1800 we did spend we felt we were happy with, and we went with standard power points etc. Council application is up to FI PLANNING now and as we haven't heard from anyone we presume all is going to plan! We have direct interior selections this week, so fingers crossed we don't need to upgrade too much as our final footings aren't in yet and probably won't be for a while longer as site works only started a week and a half ago. Still waiting to hopefully chat with others building in blakes crossing doesn't matter if your not with fairmont! We have the roman liquorice gloss wall tile behind the bath in our ensuite, and white everywhere else. I like your wall tile for your bathroom too! I like tiles with a bit of texture and interest. We went plain white (with the lines through it) as we wanted the contrast. Re: Our first build with Fairmont Homes - Blakes Crossing So 20Sep 02, 2015 9:16 pm Our bathrooms must be the same bobbin. We chose the Miami sandstone a greyish white tile for.the walls but had the Roman licorice for the feature wall in the showers. Will look great I think, I remember seeing the white tile you speak of I think it had wavey lines in it? Well these guys are not looking good...
