Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 17, 2015 9:57 pm I live in Glen Waverley in Melbourne and looking at building house with Metricon or Henley. 1. Any bad or good experience with Metricon or Henley in Glen Waverley or nearby suburbs? 2. Any good sales, site supervisor and client coordinator? Many thanks. Re: Any experience with Metricon or Henley? 2May 17, 2015 10:47 pm Hi ynfg27 I'm currently doing a KDR in the northern suburbs of melbourne, (sorry, not building with either Henley or Metricon, so can't comment on that side of things), but I would STRONGLY advise you to hire your own private independent building inspector. I truly believe that you need to keep the builder, regardless of who you go with on notice. I'm currently using a mid size builder to build my dream home and my private building inspector has been great value, ( we already had a review and inspections for pre-contract signing, pre-pour slab, frame, pre-plaster, and we'll be doing pre- PCI in the coming months. Our building inspector, assisted us in ironing out a few issues with our builder, nothing major but I feel on my own I wasn't getting my issues resolved. Generally our builder has met us halfway with all our issues, but only after we had to chase them and challenge them somewhat. Mind you, what ever issues we needed sorted out was clearly stated and paid for in our building contract, but it didn't hurt that my building inspector added a few choice words in the frame stage report to get the desired meeting with the director, ss and admin manager and we got the results that we wanted. Best of luck with building. Cheers Mary Re: Any experience with Metricon or Henley? 3May 18, 2015 8:15 am Agree with the above. From what I have seen/experienced so far I would recommend the following: 1. Hire an independent inspector! 2. Do your research before committing to a builder 3. Whatever builder you choose, take photos and more photos. Document EVERYTHING! and any changes make sure are provided in writing. Good luck! Re: Any experience with Metricon or Henley? 4May 18, 2015 12:47 pm thanks for above. I have been told by friend how important the inspector is. If I hire inspector on my own, 0. can anyone recommend good inspector? 1. would this inspector help me get the building permit as well? 2. is it true that I don't need use builder's surveyor if I hire on my own? 3. what building stage should I get him/her involved? All stages or some of important ones? 4. how much does it cost? Re: Any experience with Metricon or Henley? 8May 22, 2015 5:46 pm Hello everyone. I've newly joined the forum and this is my first post. We're planning to build a house in gateway estate and are currently looking out for a builder. From the above posts I gather it is really important to have a building inspector. At what stage into the building process do we need to get a building inspector? Could you recommend someone? Cheers!
