Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 17, 2015 10:16 am Hi, I am building a Rawson Kempsey 28 in NSW & I am trying to choose between the Austral: Orpheus, Chiffon or Blackbutt. I'm a first time builder, so am out of my depth (already)! Has anyone used these bricks? Does the colour fade after a while, or does the colour remain as is? I'm trying to go for a dark grey type brick, but am having trouble deciding. Thanks in advance Re: Brick colour choices & making a decision 2May 22, 2015 7:50 pm About to build the same house and looking at similar colours. I choose one yesterday but cannot recall the name, but think one of the bricks your looking at. To your question, bricks generally do not fade. Colours are either mixed in, or done as a glaze, either way they are permanent features. They may get dirty however which may change the look slightly. Re: Brick colour choices & making a decision 3Jul 12, 2015 6:42 pm At the moment we are leaning towards using Blackbutt. We drove around and saw a couple of houses and it looks great but they are only a new brick so all the houses are only new and you can't tell if they will fade. Re: Brick colour choices & making a decision 4Jul 12, 2015 10:20 pm Turns out the brick we had selected was called Sydney Blue by Boral. However Rawson said the packages have changed and it is now no longer a standard brick. I call BS on that as I reckoned it was an upgrade from the begging and they said it wasn't, so now they are trying to save face. Now gone to a brick called Freedom from Austral. Re: Brick colour choices & making a decision 5Jul 14, 2015 1:27 pm It's a problem when they change the "standard" selection. They really need to have more greys in their standard selections. We've ended up choosing Austral Chiffon, as the upgrade wasn't massive. Re: Brick colour choices & making a decision 6Jul 14, 2015 2:16 pm Must admit Sydney Blue wasn't too expensive either. $1500 for the whole house, but wife decided enough cost was enough. Even though a simple brick and brown reckon the Freedom will work just fine. Roof and gutters going to be Colorbond Wallaby and windows Woodland Grey. 2 8366 I should have followed up on this thread. So, the pier foundation wasn't large enough on the side it was leaning towards, and the NBN cable went through the pier, just… 8 12133 Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 7231 |
