Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 384Jul 02, 2016 5:47 pm For us gas and elec was sorted by fairmont. One of the tradies could not visit till the day after we got keys to connect, but i cant remember which. I think it might have been elec. Fairmont use electricity sa for gas and elec, we still use them. House is looking great, love the kitchen. Fungers crossed for pci soon and moving bubs into new house Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 385Jul 04, 2016 5:58 pm The canopy was painted - I didn't get a chance to call the SS on Friday but when I went past Friday night it had already been painted - the same colour as the roof. Howver, after googling similar facades I've realised that is the way it is usually done. It is growing on me, but there is still something 'wrong' about it that I can't put my finger on. AND.. I bumped into the SS at the house after picking my daughter up from kindy today. He said that painting would take 'a couple of weeks.' So we won't be in early at all. i have to apologise now because I am in such a negative, emotional frame of mind and I just can't be positive. Every step of this process has taken us longer than the other Fairmont builds going on at the same time, including the admin stages. I am over it. Why are we so special that it takes twice as long for things to be done on our house than on the other Fairmont builds!!! I am in constant pain, pretty much on bed rest. I can only walk short distances at a time because of these stupid 'practice contractions.' I can't sleep at night - the past few days I haven't been able to sleep until 6:30am. I am exhausted. I just wanted to be in our house so I could rest and prepare for baby. Now it looks like we definitely won't be in the house before baby comes, and likely won't be in until August sometime. We have no money and are about to max out our credit card too. I just want to cry. Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 386Jul 04, 2016 7:29 pm Oh Bobbin you poor thing! I know honey is sweeter than vinegar, but I'd be calling fairmont and questioning the whole process. It should definitely NOT take this long to build a house! You guys started before us for gods sake! Building a custom Sterling home in Adelaide. Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 387Jul 04, 2016 8:42 pm I feel for you, I really do, so stressful let alone be in pain too....the whole process is a mammoth task and you are almost there, I really hope your SS can crack a whip on your final items and get you handed over soon. I'm sorry if my post has upset you at all, you would think with the same builder and In the north we would be travelling along fairly steady and yes for someone who has started building in December you would hope you would be finished but I'm sure if you can hang on it will be all worth it, try and keep your chin up and your legs up and that baby in a little longer..... Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 388Jul 04, 2016 10:23 pm Argh Bobbin I think you have hit rock bottom. Surely the way is up from here. If any consolation the last bit really drags on but once you are in you start to forget about those hard days, similar to with a baby I guess. Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 389Jul 05, 2016 1:08 pm I think yeassczwe get upgrade with fairmont. But in the end i figure it out it cost you everywhere similar price to build home. Hickinbotham is better i have realised atleast they got reputation to build quicker home. Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 390Jul 05, 2016 7:51 pm Aww Bobbin, I feel your pain, we've not even started the build yet and I'm already fed up with it I can totally understand why you want to be in the house and finish your nesting before the baby arrives but you probably wouldn't rest up, you'd be looking round at all the things you want to perfect. Try and take it easy and good luck with it all Building with Simonds in S.A Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 391Jul 08, 2016 3:47 am Thanks for the support everyone. I met the (one and only) painter today (well, yesterday, insomnia means that I am awake at night and sleep during the day at the moment). He was really nice but I was internally screaming "WHY IS THERE ONLY ONE OF YOU???" Two weeks ago we gave written notice to the three neighbours behind us that we wanted to replace the fence. One has decided to be difficult and is saying that the fence, that has been in need of replacement since before we purchased the property in 2008, was totally fine before we demolished the property, and that any damage can be managed by maintenance not replacement. Seriously, not only has the fence been literally falling down since before we bought it, it has also been used as to retain the higher soil level of the properties behind us. It NEEDS to be replaced. We are broke, we are not doing this because we want to right now, we are doing it because we actually can't have our dogs there until it is done, and it will prevent our landscaping from starting as the retaining wall needs to go in first. I was going to post photos but realised that my phone and ipad are both dead and I can't remember which photo hosting site I have previously used! Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 392Jul 08, 2016 3:49 am Oh, and just before demolition last year we received notice that NBN Co were going to be doing all of the installations in our area. DH called them and told them not to do any work on our property as we were about to demolish. I don't think he talked to me about this as I would have told him to put it in writing. Anyway, he has called them to find out about installation, and they have said that as they did the installation last year, it will be a re-install and will cost us $300. Not happy. DH questioned why they installed it when we said not to and the person on the phone apparently just kept repeating that "we do all the houses in the area at one time." But, because DH didn't put it in writing, we have no proof that we told them not to do it... I even put it in writing and it didn't make any difference. We are taking it further and threatening the TIO, mainly because they are also saying we need to dig the trenches - through out neighbors driveway! Building with Simonds in S.A Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 397Jul 10, 2016 8:12 am Grrr to neighbours and fences, ours wasn't nearly as bad as your photo, but still I found in general many people won't spend any money on fences, no matter how bad it looks. And using a fence as a retaining wall is so ridiculous but happens way too often. Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 399Jul 10, 2016 2:19 pm Holy Moley! That is insane. Ridiculous to think that your neighbours only think it needs maintenance! Building a custom Sterling home in Adelaide. Re: Fairmont Homes CustomKDR - 2 weeks till PCI? 400Jul 10, 2016 4:45 pm I am really annoyed about it - they are clearly just trying to get out of paying. It is just going to delay it though, which will impact on our ability to landscape. Not looking forward to all that mis with our two active inside/outside kelpies and our beautiful bamboo floor! We went to the house today and the render had been painted. Just first coat - is this a standard first coat colour or is it the colour it will end up? We couldn't work it out. We chose half strength cream but it looks too white for that. I actually really like it, but it will contrast with the garage door and window.
