Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 12, 2015 10:08 am Hi! After spending countless hours stalking build threads for inspiration I've finally decided it's time to start my own! Here's our story... The husband and I grew up in a small country town and moved to the city for Uni around 10 years ago, but when we had a little one of our own we started to think about our own upbringings and wanted a similar childhood for our little man. We'd had our eye on Meadows for a few years as DH played footy there a few years back and we got a good vibe being there - then when they finally started releasing blocks in the new development we waited for the perfect one and snapped it up! The land has been in the works for a loooong time as it's in Stage 3 and there was a lot of developing to be done but we've finally purchased it and chosen our builder/design and plans have now been submitted to Council - yay! I'm hoping that I can put ideas/questions on here and get some discussion back as I feel like we are such newbies to building and I have no idea about what's going on half the time, but I'm slowly learning... Now, to work out how to post pics on here... Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 2May 12, 2015 11:40 am Congrats and how exciting for you Now your plans are in council you're nearly there for site start How big is your block? Our block is 820m2 so hopefully big enough for everything we want (and 2 monster sized rainwater tanks!). Here is our block- Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And here are our plans, we've made a few minor changes since... Nice big block with plenty of room to run around on And a very nice looking road too Jen (& Dave) Plantation Bronte, Ormeau Ridge, Gold Coast QLD 12/03/2015 - Commencement... 26/08/2015 - Handover! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76446 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 6May 12, 2015 1:34 pm Some selections... although they were a bit of a blur - I've forgotten some of the colours we chose! Exterior - losely based on this colour scheme with red bricks and cream detailing. We went with Colourbond Monument for the roof... BATHROOMS AND LAUNDRY We upgraded the laundry basin and mixer, and added a benchtop over the washer/dryer with a tiled splashback in the same colours as the bathrooms. Classic white matt cabinets and Sepia Oak Ravine laminate benchtops We upgraded the vanity as I didn't really like the standard, this is what the upgrade looks like. Will also have the niche in both showers like in this pic Bathroom and ensuite basins are Caroma Leda Vasque topmounted circular basins Bathroom and ensuite mixers are Whiteley Gooseneck sink mixers Wall tiles are Beaumonts Classic Carrara White 400x200mm for the walls (horizontally stacked to 1500mm high) and Haven Chocolate 450x450mm for the floors. - they are mostly white but have a very subtle grey marbling - just realised we will have brown tone floor tiles with subtle grey in the wall tiles... wondering if that will look okay together!? KITCHEN - this is my baby! I really like the fresh, light and bright modern country kitchen look so hopefully we can pull it off! I will bring in colour and detailing with decor/pendant lights etc, thinking a cornflower blue vintage style kettle and toaster Here are some pics of styles I like... Here is what we (I ) have chosen Upgrade to Clark Prism overmount sink Thermolaminated Classic white matt cabinets in Corfu style Marquino gloss laminate benchtop (white with grey marbling) Splashback will be Beaumonts white Manhattan gloss bevel subway tiles We will do our own knobs/pulls after handover as the standard ones were way too modern to match the style. Floorboards are these - Carpet in lounge, beds and study is Godfrey Hirst Ballad 575 in Taupe - now that I'm looking at the carpet colour again, I hope it's not too light... I think I prefer the chocolate actually! Internal doors (13!) We upgraded to Stanford doors... I thought we upgraded our front door too but can't find it on our list so must check on that! This is the front door handle set we upgraded to I *think* that's all for now folks! I can't wait to see it all together, fingers crossed it all works well Thanks for following! I welcome all comments/feedback as I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 7May 12, 2015 1:36 pm We're getting a monument roof too. I think I've added all of our selections now... Now we just wait for the approvals to come through and cross our fingers that our builders can get a bit done before winter really hits :/ Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 9May 12, 2015 8:21 pm Congratulations Mahalia! What a beautiful spot. Your street looks great and your block is a great size. Meadows is beautiful. I've a friend (ex-work mate) who lives there on the main street. They just completely renovated/expanded an old stone cottage -- I must get out there and check it out. That's a great plan. I liked the Divine homes I saw at Seaford. They don't seem to have many display village (not that I've seen). I think your brown and grey will be fine. Warm greys look fine with browns. My interior wall colours are a mid silvery/brown. Some people think its grey, I say it's brown. I chose dark brown furniture/cabinetry and carpet to go with my silver/brown walls and it I think it will look great PS. I think the chocolate haven floor tiles are great. I nearly got these for our living areas but ended up with 'Mocha' porcelain. We're having the Haven Choc on our alfresco and porch though -- nice tile Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 10May 13, 2015 12:09 pm Love your choices! LOVE your kitchen splashback-you are lucky to have lots of cool choices! Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 11May 13, 2015 12:14 pm Thanks Jakki! The bevel gloss splash back tiles were an upgrade But weren't overly pricey I didn't think... I chickened out of bricklaying our bathrooms even though they had white subway tiles as standard and we could have done it at no extra cost - I hope I don't regret playing it 'safe' Are you going to start a build thread? Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 12May 13, 2015 12:30 pm Thanks TomCat, we are really excited to live at Meadows We thought the Devine display homes were really nice (even the standard ones) compared to some of the others we saw. They only have Seaford and Orleana Waters (near Gawler). Thanks for the reassurance about the brown and grey, I'm sure it will be fine! We loved those Haven Chocolate tiles straight away! Good choice Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 13May 13, 2015 3:31 pm I also love your kitchen benchtop, it's stunning. Our builders range is SO basic :/. I'm second guessing a few things. Yeah I think I will, it's good for questions! I started a blog, mainly to share with my NSW friends and that as they are building soon too. http://webuiltacountryhome.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 14May 13, 2015 3:50 pm I just had a read - all looks great! Your girls are gorgeous 😊 I'm so in love with your floor plans, I remember looking at the Adelaide for so long but not having the foresight to figure out the dining scenario and trying to fit everything in that I wanted (we have no need for formal dining), I love what you've done with the pantry/store/home office! Our computer/study type stuff will have to go in my sewing room, doh! I would have love, love, loved a stone benchtop but there was NO way the budget would stretch that far! Hopefully it doesn't look cheap and nasty, it's so hard to picture the full outcome from a tiny little square sample :/ As far as progress, we are waiting on council approval as our bank needs that before they give us conditional approval, our Devine consultant said yesterday he's thinking around 4 more weeks. Also talked to another Devine person today and said she would try and 'speed things up' (not sure what they can do?) and not to stress too much about the weather, they know what they're up against done there and don't anticipate any huge delays. Just want to get started already!! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 15May 13, 2015 5:24 pm Thankyou- I am actually now going in tomorrow to make some changes! Brett is away though so a little hard on my own. Thankyou-you might change your mind when they are living next door to you haha! Thanks so much-yes exactly! I was the same! It took a while to work out how to do it as I actually wanted to have the store room long and enter through it as a mudroom! Oh well-next time! Hmm it might work out ok or maybe you will jig things around and put them elsewhere once you are in there. Oh me too!! But at 1k a metre it was over 9k for our kitchen! I'm not sold on our benchtop but there isn't alot to choose from. Ah well there you go I didn't realise banks wanted the council approval! Thankyou for mentioning that. Fingers crossed it's sooner than 4 weeks for you. YES me too!! Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 16May 13, 2015 7:08 pm I don't think ALL banks require council approval before final loan approval, but ours is one that does :/ Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 17May 13, 2015 7:10 pm Mahalia27 I don't think ALL banks require council approval before final loan approval, but ours is one that does :/ Ours did too. Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 19May 13, 2015 10:11 pm Just remembered Lincoln 29 built at Meadows recently. A beautiful Metricon house: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72022 Re: Our modern country home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills! 20May 30, 2015 1:01 pm Thanks TomCat, I have followed that build for a while Great to get some insight and advice on building in the development! I so wish I had more to report, but our plans are still in with Council The most exciting things that has happened is a letter from Council giving us our house number - must mean we are one step closer right?! Our build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=77368 of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23754 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 10792 Thanks again Simeon for being so elaborate. Appreciate it. Its gives us a very idea. Kind Regards 4 3608 |
