Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 09, 2015 3:13 pm http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251952198282 ... EBIDX%3AIT Can I get som opinions please? New home being build with gas ducted heating included in the build already. Just for the ambience of a fireplace rather than for heating but does have a heating function, would you consider a product like this? We don't have anywhere that suitable to have the real deal and cost of real deal very high. Maybe a product like this could assist with the "feel" of a fireplace. I know atleast it can be placed and moved anywhere like lounge, master bedroom, theatre room or even the alfresco so that has to be a plus. What do you think? Re: Fireplace look 3May 23, 2015 8:51 am I love those gas "fake" fires. They do throw out heat - but can look awesome. They don't cost a lot - if you don't overuse them, and are so much better than the wood - eg cleaning, painting, service, wood, etc - if you live say in SEQ. Just use them at parties etc - people will gather around them - amazing ! Most won't even know they are gas. I am talking about a good one too ... Re: Fireplace look 4May 23, 2015 9:44 am Why not get a dvd from that big yellow and black retailer that has open fires on a loop, same as a fish tank to watch. It even makes crackling noises. We had this at my workplace. Got comments every day about it. It looks real and you have the Tv already, just get the dvd. Re: Fireplace look 6May 23, 2015 10:32 am SM you need to do some homework on those gas log fires. They most certainly aren't cheap. The good brands like Heatn'Glo or Jetmaster etc start at $2000 with all the costs of installation etc on top of that. I do agree however that they look pretty schmick. Stewie Re: Fireplace look 7May 24, 2015 8:37 am SD - yes - I was sort of extrapolating against normal fires too - the wood is very expensive these days - and the upkeep - painting etc. But yes - they are not cheap. Still a good log fire is not cheap either - when you take everything into account - eg build, chimney, mantle (if you have one), and as above - the upkeep and fuel. Over - say - a 10 year period I'd say gas ones are cheaper. Re: Fireplace look 8May 24, 2015 8:48 am Have you looked at wall mounted ethanol heaters? Can mount on exisiting wall and can provide heat as well as look and run on metho with no flue etc Re: Fireplace look 9May 24, 2015 8:54 am Most of the people I know that have chosen a gas log fire including half a dozen clients over the last ten years or so have spent from $6 to $8,000 installing one. They usually want the whole box and dice so it looks like a traditional fire so they get a false hearth and mantle with a framed and insulated chimney, plaster clad and cornices around the top with the flue through the roof. The result is very good and you have the look and feel of a wood fire at the press of a button without all the hassle of chopping wood, cleaning the ash box etc etc. Been there done that in a few of the older houses I have lived in so I can see the appeal of a glf. Stewie No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 9113 Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 11125 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 924 |
