Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 19, 2015 6:48 pm Hi all, Can anyone assist with some brick/roof colour combinations? We went to the austral display centre today for the first time. We were initially trying to stay with the Austral everyday life range as this is included in our package - we narrowed the choices down to either the 'leisure' or the 'engage' so they gave us a list of addresses which we went and looked at (although the address list was last updated Jan 2014, I wonder if the brick colours have changed since then?) When we did the drive by's, the bricks looked completely different on the houses compared to the samples at the display centre, is this normal? Thankfully they looked better on the houses then at the display centre. Now we are considering upgrading to the category two which includes the urban one range and wilderness range. From looking at the brochure 'chiffon' 'pepper' and 'blackbutt' look nice.... So we were considering getting addresses for these also to have a look. Does anyone have any pictures of their houses with any of the bricks above which could help us? We need to decide in two weeks, and I think we may have left this a little late to come to a decision! Any help is greatly appreciated. Re: Austral Bricks? Help! 2Apr 19, 2015 8:18 pm Bricks can change quite a bit and still keep the same name. Often the staff think they know how they are currently coming out, but you can't rely on that. Bear in mind though, that the colour and finish of the mortar can have a big impact on the look of the brick. Also scale makes a difference. When you look at a whole house, you see different things in a brick than you do when you look at a few bricks in a little wall. Re: Austral Bricks? Help! 4Apr 20, 2015 9:43 pm The mortar is the cement based material between the bricks that holds them together. You can use different colours for it, by using different cement and/or different sand, or adding oxides that go into it. You can also finish the mortar differently, either flush with the brick face, or ironed, or raked in. They all give quite different looks. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair to do it properly you need to dig out the garden and waterproof the outside of the wall.
