Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 17, 2015 2:40 pm Hello forum, I'm building with HBC in Eden Beach, Western Australia. My wife and I have gone through the arduous process of trying to select the right builder and right design and we're now at slab stage. We're both completely new at the build process. So - probably a silly question (and the first of many to come): When the footings were poured we noticed that all the plumbing pipes in slab were placed correctly and had been covered carefully, when visiting the block today we saw the slab had been poured, and soakwells installed, but every single one of the pipes (except for the external ones - I assume they're for the soakwells) had been cut/snapped off at the base. Is this normal procedure? Most of the other slabs I've seen still have the pipes intact standing out of the slab, unless they've been repaired/connected again? Re: My first build! Slab questions! 2Apr 17, 2015 3:23 pm Hi Rudy! Also building with HBC (in Baldivis) and just had my slab poured last week. Do you have a photo? I have a couple up on my thread (see my signature) if that helps with your query. Also a first time builder so i have no idea if its normal Re: My first build! One distance photo is not enough, BTW you should take a number of photos showing all aspects...make sure you get the sand penetrometer reading etc from the siteworks contractor 4. Monitor all slab cracks and check them against the reo photos Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: My first build! Hi RudyFonesca, I'm a first timer too but this happened to us also. The only ones left standing so to speak were ones we identified were in the wrong place and the external ones. All of the cut ones still have their capping on though. Do yours? Re: My first build! Slab questions! 5Apr 22, 2015 11:58 am Don't worry about it, apparently it happens...some people have only one cracked pipe, others like me have multiple cracked pipes. Some people do not have any damaged pipes at all. Ours happened during site clean. Plumbers came a couple weeks later and repaired the cracked/run over pipes. SS was informed when the cracks were spotted and we were told not to worry lol....we are also first time building.
