Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Room sizes 21Apr 11, 2015 9:09 pm I don't think many people would say they want smaller bedrooms just for the sake of it. It's more part of the trade-offs in house design. Usually there are budget and footprint constraints, restricting what can be achieved, and it comes down to priorities. Room sizes 22Apr 11, 2015 11:27 pm Well said oneJohn, we had to get rid of the upstairs living area to make another bedroom. It has been our main priority to have large bedrooms as we have 5 children and they need there own space. 5 children trying to play in the living, dining areas would be a nightmare in the making. Master: 6040x4070 Bed 2: 4785x3310 Bed 3: 4205x3310 Bed 4: 3190x3650 Bed 5: 3770x3650 Bed 6: 3620x3780 All bedroom measurements exclude robes. Plenty of room for them to play individually or together, make cubby houses and have a bed, desk, toy storage and open space. Hopefully they actually use the bedrooms as they spend majority of there time outside. They won't stay little for ever so it's nice to know there is plenty of room for them as they grow. Re: Room sizes 23Apr 13, 2015 1:26 pm Our kid/extra rooms will be 3000x3200 3000x3050 3000x3300 Master bedroom: 3700x3350 My biggest concern really was the size of the master bedroom, we have a king sized bed, so as long as that fit comfortably I was happy. Our place will have two lounge rooms (one will likely be a playroom, or one of the spare rooms will be) so I wasn't too concerned with fitting a lot of other "stuff" in the kid rooms besides a bed. A big factor too is how useable the room is, at one place we looked at, the master bedroom was 3130x3400 BUT three of the walls had doors/openings (door into the room, WIR, door to courtyard). It really cut down on how functional the room was because you had to make sure you could walk comfortably round the bed to get in/out of doors. We built the Rathdowne with Simonds Express in Western Melbourne Site start Oct. 2015 Keys Jan. 25th, 2015 My build thread -here- Re: Room sizes 24Apr 13, 2015 1:49 pm Our bedroom sizes are: Master - 3.83 x 3.73 Bed 4 - 2.99 x 3.460 Bed 3 - 3.100 x 3.230 Bed 2 - 3.400 x 3.330 All of these rooms have separate robes not included in the size except for bed 4. We have a king bed also for the master so hopefully it fits alright as we couldn't make the room any bigger, but it should be ok! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Room sizes 25Apr 13, 2015 3:15 pm There are lots of people in our house with a wide mix of ages (5 young kids, myself and my wife, one of my brothers and my mother) so we need lots of room and lots of storage. We wanted the kids rooms to be big enough for a King Single and a desk now and a Queen later (with the way Sydney property prices keep going up they may never actually move out ) Master: 4.78m x 4.31m Bed 2: 3.12m x 4.71m Bed 3: 3.0m x 3.6m Bed 4: 3.0m x 3.7m Toy Room: 4.8m 3.2m (this will be a bedroom once the kids get older) Bed 5: 4.25m x 3.2m Bed 6: 4.25m x 3.3m (Spare) Bed 7: 2.78m x 4.31m (just fits a Queen bed ) These are all excluding built-in's / walk-in's. There's living area's on both levels and a HT so we should all be able to excape from each other when required... OK it's been a little while! I've been busy getting time where I can to work on this.
