Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 24, 2008 6:41 pm Hello all,
It has been a while since I have been on to the forum as we had sooooo many problems up until now. We even entertained the idea of selling the block and buying something existing. Well I'm glad to say we have persevered and finally have some good news.... Our site was cut today!! A bit of background on our journey so far. We bought 5000m2 of land in Brisbane in Aug last year. The block was a new release in an acreage estate called Spring Mountain. We chose a block with character (read: pretty steep fall across the block). We have strict covernants and had a min size requirement of 250m2, not including garage and alfresco. We also had to have a bio cycle, huge tanks e.t.c. So, we needed to find a large house on a budget. We also had to have a huge cut and fill in very hard clay ground. We signed with Dixon and had heaps of problems. Then we had to deal with council amalgamation and more problems than I have time to list. We were told when we signed last year that we would be starting in Jan 08 which worked out well as I found out I was pregnant with bub number 3 and we would be in by Aug!! As I said our site got cut today and I have 7 weeks till this bub is born and now just hope they're done by xmas. I look forward to sharing our next step of our journey with you all. I love seeing everyones photos and updates and I hope you enjoy ours to. Even if there is more "excitement" to come. Slab update 20/07 10Jun 26, 2008 5:11 pm Thanks Guys, you've made me feel really welcome.
Now I just have to stop myself driving out there EVERY day. Petrol is too expensive. Maybe twice a week won't hurt Re: I'm back and ready to build! Slab update 20/07 11Jun 26, 2008 5:14 pm Love the block. But you're kidding yourself yourself about twice a week! Every day! Petrol be damned!
Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: I'm back and ready to build! Slab update 20/07 12Jun 26, 2008 7:58 pm Looks like a great spot....so jealous of the 5000m2!! Mind you....I have enough trouble looking after our 1000m2!! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: I'm back and ready to build! Slab update 20/07 13Jun 26, 2008 8:37 pm wow Jet, how exciting!!
Love the land size and the house plan. So jealous!! Let the good times roll Spring Mountain 15Jun 30, 2008 9:48 am Welcome back Jet, that took a long time.
We looked at you block every time when we were out there, waiting for you to start. We are waiting for our contract now, hopefully it doesn't take that long Take care Mike Lot 830 Re: I'm back and ready to build! Slab update 20/07 16Jul 01, 2008 7:49 am Who did you decide to build with Mike? I see you have pegged out an area I assume is where you are putting your house? Spring Mountain 17Jul 01, 2008 8:55 am I going with homedesign (http://www.homedesign.net.au/), they are willing to use our plans.
We tried several builders, Dixon, Hallmark, Newstart, and an independent builder, who told us after several weeks of planning he is not building new homes anymore... Now we are waiting for the final plans, they are pre-approved in regards to covenants, and the contract. If everything goes allright (especially Logan Council) building can start August/September. Till then I'm looking at your site and keep dreaming ... Mike Re: I'm back and ready to build! Slab update 20/07 18Jul 01, 2008 6:17 pm Good Luck with the council, that's where all our problems started. Re: I'm back and ready to build! Slab update 20/07 19Jul 07, 2008 8:38 am Well fingers crossed the rain stops in the next couple of days because my slab is booked in to be poured on Friday and I've waited too long for it not to happen.
Another pain was the bricks we originally chose have been discontinued and I had to choose another one. Everyone knows how stressful that decision is. Well I chose Hamilton from PGH with off white flush mortar. I hope that will look ok. Is anyone else using Hamilton? Also I originally only had a choice between white or cream square tiles for the splashback in the kitchen but now I am allowed to choose what I like and I can't decide. The benchtops are black laminate (you know the type with the grey speckles through it), the cupboards are bamboo (light cream colour with the textured look). I have NO idea what to do as a splashback. I originally had the white tiles but I think they will stand out too much. What do you think of a basic stainless steel to pick up on the grey flecks in the benchtops? Or do I go dramatic with a red frosted glass. I really hate cleaning grout so I need something streamlined. Any suggestions?? Jet Re: I'm back and ready to build!
