Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--[PCI and Key!] 241Oct 13, 2015 8:03 pm Double congrats Sofia! New born and new house! Mine is at the similar stage at yours. Done second PCI few more things to rectify before I want to book in for a handover. Also a Newborn coming in less than 5 weeks. Have you found your painter? Was thinking we could have the same painter and maybe the painter could offer a better price for two houses. A HUGE congratulations to you and OH on the new addition to your family It sounds like you and the little one is doing well and I'm really happy and glad to hear that! Fantastic news re the key too - yes as you say all at once! Good luck with the move and please keep us updated x Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--[PCI and Key!] 246Oct 16, 2015 10:28 pm Thanks everyone. Just have a second to post. Hubby has changed his mind about the painting. We are now looking for a painter. Any recommendation? PM me please. Well, he underestimated how much work it is for a newborn. He said that if the house is ready as original planned, he would have time to paint. Well, let's say that the build time overall is reasonable -- just under 7 months as promised by our sale guy. I don't know if it will add another few weeks if we would need paving etc done by the builder, though. Some other delays are just out of control. I will check in homeone every now and then but might not have much time. I'll update if i can. Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Re: Build@wellard with Dreamstart homes--[PCI and Key!] 249Oct 17, 2015 6:51 pm oops wrong thread sorry! That'll teach me Re: Update 2 yrs on: Build with Dreamstart homes 250Nov 25, 2017 5:25 pm I'm just coming back to give an update on the house, especially the quality of the build and after build service from Dreamstart. We love our house. As you can see from this thread that we had up and down during the build. That's part of the process of every build. When the 6 months maintenance period was up, DS sent their maintenance guy in quickly to fix up minor things on our list. The main issue being the crack along the ceiling, which is expected due to house settling. The guy did a fantastic job in patching them up. We had problem with the evap system which DS directed us to the evap company for the fix. All good. About a year ago, we have found a problem with the floor tiles. The contractor from Crosby tile had cut corner. A few of the floor tiles don't have cement underneath. At the moment, it won't give us any problem but it can in a long term. I have yet to discuss with DS if this is considered structural or not. I are living with it as this is not urgent. Unfortunately, they couldn't live up the good service that they provided to us at 6 months maintenance. We had a leak on the roof a week ago. Rain soaked the insulation batt and dripped down from the ceiling. Luckily, we found it out quickly and temporary prevented the leak. It was weekend so we called someone out to do a seal temporary. Both the service guy (not from DS) and my husband were quite surprised to find out what happened. The flashing of the evap system was not installed properly as well as the roof tiles around the evap system. With the rain and wind over time, the roof tiles got pushed away from their original position, left a big hole. I called DS the first thing on Monday. The whole process is rather frustrating. I could never get hold on the person in charged of the servicing department. I'd to leave a message and waited until it was my turn to get the phone call. When they called and if you happened to be not by your phone, bad luck. Repeat the process again. This is very inefficient. Anyway, they told me that they would send someone out to evaluate if it is covered under their structural warranty in ~1.5 weeks! Honestly, i couldn't believe what i heard. I felt that a leaky roof is a rather urgent matter and the lady on the phone ensured me that it isn't going to rain anytime soon. Well, who knows given the weird weather pattern in WA lately. It wasn't supposed to rain in mid Nov either. Perhaps they need to hire more people to deal with the large number of issues? I would be totally satisfied if they send the person out for repairing rather than just for evaluating. I have to take time off work and what if it isn't covered under the warranty? I am sure that getting someone in would be faster than DS turn around time. A leaky roof as a result of the poor installation of the evap system is clearly a poor workmanship I don't know why the lady on the phone doesn't have the authority to decide if it is covered under the warranty. As it seems that they might be sending a maintenance guy at a later phone call when i rescheduled. We shall see......not very happy about the turn around time being so long. When people/companies do it right, I also write the positive. I wrote the above post because we weren't expecting this to happen at all and were a bit frustrated with the long turn around time. Perhaps that's because we have a different service for comparison. There were various factors to consider, especially not knowing the extend of the damage, we phoned the insurance company. The insurance company sent an engineer + his guy to check our roof, put a temporary silicon sealant on the roof tile the day of the incident. They even sent a carpet guy out to inspect our carpet and gave us a big fan to dry it out. Their contractor came out the first business day to inspect the roof etc and gave us a quote for fixing. It was all set to go 4 days later. The turn around time is 1 week for all of these....It was the engineer who told us about the problem of the evap flashing. We put the repair on hold while waiting on DS's response..... DS sent someone out ~1.5--2 weeks later to inspect. He didnt' think there is anything wrong with the roof tile as well as the evap flashing. I suspect it is a big job to re-position the evap system and flashing to align with the roof tiles. He commented that our guy did a good job of fixing it. He didnt seem to concern about the silicon sealant. I followed up with them few days later. They sent someone out to patch watermark on the ceiling sightly more than a week later. No cost on us, which is a plus, as we feel that it is not our fault. So we are happy that they at least fix that part of the problem. The office even emailed back to follow up. That's what i call appropriate customer service. Anyway, hubby isn't convinced nothing need to be done with the roof tiles. After all, the roof tiles around the flashing do get pushed open over time with the rain/evap water -- the source of the problem. He will probably see if he can tie them to the roof frame from the inside. Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
