Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 06, 2015 11:15 am Hi Everyone.. We are in the very early stages of planning a build. So far I really like the look of WBN but we have just moved to Perth from overseas so I'm not familiar with many of the brands here. My question is whether WBN provide a high quality option for taps, bath, sinks and the like....and tiles, although I think I can work out whether tiles are good? And if you don't like WBN options can you provide your own (tiles, in particular)? I would like certain areas like powder room, ensuite and kitchen to have a Zorzi finish, if you get what I mean! And if you built with WBN were you happy with finishes? One more question - underfloor heating, did you put it in? Thanks! ETA we are building in Perth....western suburbs. Re: Webb Brown Neaves - tapware and other stuff 2Apr 06, 2015 11:45 am If you pay they will give whatever finish you want. I have not left one standard selection but it is costing me.... Re: Webb Brown Neaves - tapware and other stuff 3Apr 06, 2015 12:02 pm LOL..Zorzi...Champagne on a beer budget. As has been pointed out already you can select your own finishes, as an engineer what I have noticed is the poor attention to engineering which causes those expensive tiles to crack...Choose wisely and dont always believe what salesman tell you. Ask all builders how will they guarantee the quality of those expensive finishes beyond the maintenance period I am assisting a few clients at the moment that have built coastal ($2-3 million) with other champagne builders, the structural repairs have caused defects in the finishes, repairs $100K+Houses less than 6 years old No, underfloor heating isnt generally required although if you are coastal, you may want to give some considerations to outdoor lifestyle engineering , energy, thermal, sea breezes, sand and contaminant salt airflow ie corrosion and basically low maintenance of materials and finishes as these impact greatly on your designs. You can opt for standard selections, which is mostly what we have done, or you can substitute with your preferred options. In other words, you can have whatever tap ware you like, so long as the building company are able to source it. Just make sure that any variations from standard offerings are identified and quoted on (via the builder) before you sign any agreements, while you are still in the position of walking away if you don't like what is offered. We have upgraded on tiles in a couple of places, no big deal. You can check out Cameron and Miranda's recent thread about building with WBN on this forum and my blog to hear more from WBN customers. Just search "Webb". http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Webb Brown Neaves - tapware and other stuff 5Apr 13, 2015 1:15 pm Hi we are building with another company and we were able to remove all saniware (taps toilets bath sink the lot) from the base price and got a credit, we supplied the lot ourselves. Just be careful they don't charge an installation fee as they were going to install them anyway This is the third company we have been through and all 3 were willing to allow us to do this. I would ask the question they can only say no nothing ventured nothing gained. Re: Webb Brown Neaves - tapware and other stuff 6Apr 22, 2015 11:45 pm To HBTW...if you see this, thanks for the suggestion on checking Miranda's post. It has made me re-think using WBN actually. It seems like there will be just as much checking/fixing using WBN as going with a smaller builder. I was hoping to avoid stress/issues by choosing a well known, quality builder. Is there such a thing as a stress free build? Re: Webb Brown Neaves - tapware and other stuff 7Apr 23, 2015 8:07 am lazandjohn .... Is there such a thing as a stress free build? Short answer NO... but thats why clients pay big bucks to hire professionals and builders (like Zorzi) to deal with that (stress) so everthing is sorted out before they start and during the build the supervision, engineering and checks are outstanding. On most builds it's not required unless your build is difficult, not out of the box, unique and designed by santiago calatrava etc,etc Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Thank you fro your response, Simeon.
