Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: We Have Keys 22Apr 08, 2015 12:21 am Hi Marcia welcome back! Congratulations on finally getting keys!!! Will be following your new topic PS I love how your username is Janey01 but everyone is addressing you as Marcia, including me First Build, Commodore Homes, Alkimos Beach. My build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69032 Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: We Have Keys 23Apr 16, 2015 10:31 am Moving day tomorrow. I know I promised photos, but I just haven't had time. And now I kinda think I might as well wait until we have moved in and then they can all be glamour shots!!
Been a flat out two weeks - reckon I could show a few SS a thing or two about scheduling trades and then rescheduling due to rain! Since getting keys on 31st March we have had the alarm installed, security doors installed, blinds installed, driveway poured (took four days!), shed floor poured, roller doors fixed, builder fixed side fence, TV antenna put in, NBN connection booked, curtains installed, professional internal clean. We have also had deliveries of appliances and furniture and have moved a heap of boxes over ourselves. Somewhere in there I managed to get both cars booked in for a service and have done a uni assignment. Today packing the final few boxes and hubby and daughter are having a sleep in the new house tonight for the first time. Moving the dog in today as well. So once unpacked, I will get some photos up next week I promise. Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: We Have Keys 24Apr 16, 2015 11:08 am One whole week .your killing us lol. I'll still be here though he he . Wow tomorrow move in day . It feels like yesterday you started this build (not ) . Sooooo happy for you . Xxx Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: We Have Keys 26Apr 16, 2015 11:49 am Wow you are organised! I keep running over the post handover list in my head so when we actually get keys I can hopefully move swiftly like you. Who did you get yr security system and screens through? Good luck with the move Marcia. You will soon be kicking back and enjoying the fruits of your labour Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: We Have Keys 27Apr 16, 2015 12:09 pm Ardie, we used a company called Austgard Security. He was really well priced, full Hills perimeter system with all windows and doors sensors for $3000. Can't complain about that, as RAC wanted $6k and ADT wanted $5.5k. Security screens we got through Westral, just the front door and back double slider. Went with them as the front door is a 1200 door and everyone else had to put a strength bar through the middle of the screen. Westral have a different frame set up and it wasn't needed. Still need to do the laundry and all the windows down the dead side, but will do so over the next month or so. Thanks everyone. Hard to believe we started this process Oct 2013 and it is finally coming to its crescendo! Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: We Have Keys 28Apr 16, 2015 1:37 pm Wow you are super organised! Since you could teach the SS a thing or two about scheduling tradies, feel free to share here! I'm currently working on my post-handover plan. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: We Have Keys 39Apr 23, 2015 8:18 pm Haven't been on here for ages. So happy to read that you are finally in!! It's a bit late but CONGRATULATIONS!! Can't wait to see some pics, but I know how hard it is to find the time when you first move in. Re: Marcia's Home Group Build: Photos, Photos & Photos 40Apr 24, 2015 5:08 pm Thank you so much for all your well wishes ... it's been a massive couple of weeks. So we almost didn't end up moving - I got really sick the weekend before we were meant to move and ended up in hospital. Hubby got flown out from work early and he wanted to put things on hold and I said no. In my head, we had waited far too long for anything to hold us up now. But it does explain why I have been a bit quiet since moving and all my good intentions of taking photos etc kept falling over. Better now, just needed to step back and recover. Letterbox is getting started next week, it's being done in the same brick as the front feature wall with a stainless plaque. Once that's done, the front garden can get done, yay .... anything to stop the sand! Warning: way too many photos. The agg driveway has been laid ... there's an issue with it, but I won't bore you with details. It looks amazing, we will just work on getting it fixed in the next few weeks. I would recommend the guy who did it, but probably not his sidekick. The breeze through the house is awesome!!). Oh and the singer sewing machine stand ... hubby is in the throes of restoring it, we scammed the granite sink off cut/cut out from the skip when the house was being built, it's currently being polished up so it can be a table top for this. We HAD to have this aperture because of the six star energy thing and I know some people will think 'why block it up' ... well we did, because it is the activity space on the other side and the noise carries. Glass blocks were a solution that still lets the light in. Hubby just needs to do the surround around it and it's finished. Oh and we have had to dog proof the back fence, he's been a-visiting already!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I've unpacked the last of my boxes. I'm still cleaning paint splatters off everything. Every day I find little surprises but for the most part I'm really happy with the quality. One of my neighbours came past last week and commented that our house beats her house hands down on quality and she paid more for hers. I got asked by a friend who is thinking of building if I had any advice - my response was 'if your painter is due to come through just prior to Christmas, don't be a Scrooge, buy him paint drop sheets as a present, and plenty of them'. 4 14438 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15244 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
