Hey Everyone, been a month or two since I was in here.
I had a heap of you get hold of me and check in how things were going - thank you, way to make a person feel special. I appreciate the emails and FB messages, it was nice to know people cared. The hiatus has been a good one and came at the perfect time. The stress of the build, the stress with the builder, uni prac - it was crazy times and walking away was a good thing.
I'll use this thread to share our move in and fit out, I don't want to dump on the builder. Yes they probably deserve some more bad press, there are things that were done wrong with the house, some we can fix, some we have to just live with. But I can't explain the relief I had wash over me on Tuesday morning when I got those keys. I took those keys and got in the car and then just cried. I sat in their carpark for a good 15mins and just sooked. Not angry tears, not sad tears, but tears that said 'thank f^%* that is over'. Time to move on, I don't have to recommend them to anyone, but I also don't want to dwell on how stupid things have been, in particular, over the last 5 months. I now know why this builder gives alcohol as a housewarming gift, it's to drown out the memories
So ....... we got keys on Tuesday morning. PCI was done the week before and apart from a few things, nothing of significance. There was an attempted break in to the house a few weeks back and they damaged both front roller doors. They still have to be fixed (booked in for a fortnights time). The shower screen issue was never fixed but we have a solution which will cost us $40 and some time. They also need to fix a couple of fence panels that were damaged during building.
I haven't taken any photos, sorry, Ive been sick the last two days and couldn't be ar$ed. Might do today and then I can pop them up over the weekend. But our alarm system is in, the blinds have been installed - although they are the wrong fabric and need to be remade and installed. The blind company are letting us keep the ones they installed for the time being. Hubby hung all the curtains and light fittings, our daughter loves her blingy chandelier. He's currently annoying the neighbours with a Good Friday wake up call on a dingo, cutting in the driveway ready for the concreter Tuesday.
The SS joked about giving us keys on the day our lease ended, which I didn't find funny because that has been my biggest stress and his joking shows how out of touch they are. I know the Tenancy Act well enough to know the landlord can't kick us out, and the process to try will take longer than we need to be here. I've paid the rent up to the 20th April, so effectively a periodical lease is now in place and it expires then. The landlord has kinda just had to accept it, which upsets me because I didn't want to be THAT tenant that had to manipulate things. Anyone else who finds themselves in the same predicament we have ... it's worth learning the Act and using it to your advantage.
Alright, timeline:
Next week - driveway and shed concrete, fence being fixed
Following week - TV antenna, NBN, security doors, furniture deliveries (all been on hold for months!), MOVING DAY!
I've got some catching up to do on some builds, but from what I have seen the last few days on here things are ticking along well for most of you. I've missed furniture talk, colour combinations and shopping specials .... now hopefully this logon gets left alone and I can catch up. Keep smiling, the hassle and annoyance ends eventually!
