Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 29, 2015 10:49 pm Hi
I've been reading lots of progress stories on this forum and decided to contribute our own story. All the stories I have been reading are from the Perth area, we are a little further north in Dongara, which 65km south of Geraldton. We purchased a block of land in Feb 2013 (813sqm) and have been looking at Display homes and loads of builders floor plans to get an idea of what we want in our dream home. We got engaged in Jan 2014 and are due to be married end of Oct 2015. This is when we decided it was probably time to get organised and start the process of getting our own house (currently living with my parents) We had planned a meeting with the bank for early Feb to check what we were able to borrow so that we could go looking for a design we knew we could afford (the joys of living in regional WA means we are charged more for construction costs). As luck would have it Redink had a monthly promo on for a design we loved and was within our price range! After speaking with a sales rep and making a few changes to the original plan we signed our PCQ at the end of Feb. We received our site report and survey mid March. At the moment we are just waiting on the working draws. We have already picked out flooring for living areas and bedrooms (to be installed after handover) and have been looking at colour schemes for tiles and benches (so many choices!) Plan looks good . There are plenty of red inkers on here . So if you have any questions I'm sure one of us will be able to answer them . Good luck Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 4Mar 30, 2015 10:54 am Congratulations ColleyCrew! Sounds like you and your fiancé have a lot happening for you this year! Look forward to seeing your progress on here. Cheers Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 5Mar 30, 2015 8:27 pm Thanks Neetneet91 and Melsie68. We probably wont have any action until after Easter. Waiting sucks! Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 8Apr 01, 2015 3:15 pm Haha we have a lovely neighbour that mows the grass for us otherwise it would look like a jungle! Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 9Apr 04, 2015 8:05 pm Congratulations and welcome to the forum, ColleyCrew - we'll be building with RedInk too. We're waiting for our job to go to scheduling now (I think). So hopefully won't be waiting too much longer for something to happen! Love your plans and you've got a lovely huuuge block! Wow Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 10Apr 05, 2015 7:05 pm Thanks MalSannie. Oh how exciting for you waiting really sucks though! Looking forward to seeing your build Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 12Apr 05, 2015 7:22 pm Thanks Kellie_87 have just subscribed to your build also. Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 13Apr 06, 2015 8:02 pm Fellow Redinkers - does anyone have a price on adding overhead cupboards? Also open to suggestions with kitchen. I'm concerned about bench space and storage! I was thinking of extending the bench with the oven right to the wall near the pantry but not sure what to do with breakfast bar/island if this is long enough. TIA Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 14Apr 06, 2015 9:13 pm I would extend the back bench to the wall as you say, I'd also consider then moving the sink to that extended bit? Then the whole breakfast bar would be open. You could also U-shape the kitchen by closing off the bit nearest the dining. I'd seriously consider going to Ikea for overheads, we'll have some through RedInk but only because we won't be there to have too many things done ourselves. As it is we'll get very basic normal cabinets, 2 on each side with an internal shelf, and over the fridge recess which is 1m wide and we're charged $1830 for it. Have read in another thread about cabinet makers used by RedInk - I'll find the link and paste back here Edited to add link to MIMN's thread - and a post by xxkatxx re cabinet makers: viewtopic.php?p=1329145#p1329145 Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 15Apr 06, 2015 9:24 pm Thanks MalSannie. U shape sounds like a good idea. Didnt even think of ikea! The partner of a lady i work with has done cabinetry work for Redink in town and he actually lives across the road from our future home i may ask him for pricing on it after handover. Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 16Apr 06, 2015 9:57 pm Oh that is a good contact to have! For some Ikea cabinets see AKB's wonderful laundry - her ensuite is to die for too viewtopic.php?p=1240630#p1240630 And also Cupcakes - they've added Ikea overheads in the scullery it looks lovely viewtopic.php?p=1321510#p1321510 If I'd known the Ikea things were so lovely I'd have tried to get our dimensions to suit them lol Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 17Apr 06, 2015 10:10 pm They look really good! I am pretty lucky my dad is a carpenter by trade so DIY may be a real possibility. But i would love to be able to just turn the key and walk in to a finished ready house. Cant have it all unfortunately unless i win the lottery haha. Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 18Apr 07, 2015 12:46 am Welcome! Plan looks great. Nice flow about it. Our overheads cost about $1600, though we're having the IT nook bench and cabinets done after handover. Our sales rep even told us they were charging too much definitely like the idea of extending benchtop all the way to corner next to pantry. We put our sink towards the end of the island and it's given us a lot more space. Good luck and please ask any questions. We had about 13 pages of stuff quoted up at prestart Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 19Apr 07, 2015 1:46 am It is definitely worth asking on here what people paid for stuff - and ardie was very helpful when I had to prepare for prestart too (thanks again!). It is important because sometimes people make mistakes, and we were going to be overcharged for wc's to the tune of £300 each. If we didn't know what they were costing someone else via the forum we might have paid it! We also have quite a few things priced up - would be happy to pay it forward like ardie did Re: Redink Midwest First Time Builders 20Apr 07, 2015 12:00 pm Hi ColleyCrew. We're building with Redink too. I can't comment on the overheads as ours were included in our offer but I would definitely recommend extending the kitchen as the others have suggested and like Ardie we have moved the sink to one side of the island to maximise the bench space. Look forward to seeing how you progress and all your selections!! Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not? Thanks ❤️ 0 4948 Thanks NativeZen! I can't wait to start landscaping, though it's going to be a while away yet. No movement on site yet as of the weekend. Hoping to see some earthworks… 3 2150 I ran into trouble finding a lock that would fit my particular door, like your situation with your pivot door. I wanted a safe lock that couldn't be messed with easily. 4 25692 |
