Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 28, 2015 5:29 pm Hello guys, This may have been done to death but I have no internet now I am in a rental and my mobile internet on my Telstra mobile is going to cost me a fortune if I keep searching! Lol! We have just signed up with Dale Alcock to build a modified version of the Stoneleigh and, whilst they have included $7047 for Crosby 450X450 tiles, I am planning on doing my own after key handover (left the price in there for finance purposes). We are really wanting to go for rectified porcelain in a natural non glazed look...... not the textured 'raw' look but more a natural polish if you know what I mean! The glazed ones seem to show every spec of dust and hazing on the surface. I have spoken to the guys at Trend tiles in Osborne Park and they recon a 450X900 rectangular tile would be nice but they are about $75 sq/m. I know that they do $35 sq/m 450X450 cheapy tiles but I am looking to put something nice and classy in the house if I am already spending good money on a quality home!!! Can you guys recommend a good place that sells rectified porcelain tiles at a good price?? Secondly (and possibly more importantly) who can recommend a good tiler??!!! I think $60 sq/m is about average but when you are laying bigger tiles I know that quality workmanship goes a long way If anyone can post up and pics of tiles and work with recomendations that would be the icing on the cake! Hope to hear from you soon Andrew Re: Tiling in Perth 3Mar 30, 2015 10:48 pm The tile I picked for my main floor cost me $100 m^2 calacatta White Polish TP48431 (600 x 600) and White Falda Lap (600 x600) for my alfresco the total cost just for the tiles is $12k. The lady there said that it will cost me around $70/m^2 to lay. I don't want to go any bigger that 600x 600 because I know the price for laying will sky rocketed. They need 2 people to lay anything over 600 x 600. I asked the her if she know any good tilers. She said the people that tile for my builder are very good. I just have to wait and see when they lay the tiles for my ensuite, power rooms and bath room. If the workmanship is like the display houses then definitely I will choose them. Re: Tiling in Perth 4Mar 30, 2015 11:24 pm Wow! They are pricey tiles!!! Lol! Can I ask where you bought them from? So far I like Trend in Ozzy Park. I guess I will have to check on how much tilers charge on 600x600 vs 450x900 then. I am with DA and they won't lay 600x600 tiles so no choice but to look around. Thanks for the reply!!! My tiles are from ceramic city. They are made in Italy I don't want China stuff. Tile boutique even more expensive, they want $95 per m^2 for similar tile but made in China and the Italian stuff go for $135 per m^2 lol. My builder allow us to pick tile size 600x300 for the wet area. I can pick 600x 600 but I don't want to pay anymore I already have to pay extra labour cost for choosing rectified tiles for my wet area. Re: Tiling in Perth 8Mar 31, 2015 1:15 am We have 600x600 rectified porcelain for the main area, they were $55 a Sqm but we got to the till and they did them for $44 a Sqm. Imported ceramics. We get them laid next week and we are paying $35 a Sqm plus glue. We have seen their work and we are happy Building our first home - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75306 Re: Tiling in Perth 9Mar 31, 2015 1:51 am Caraf88, that sounds good! The tiles we liked were marked $85 a Sqm but we were told that was the builders price.... they could do a fair bit better direct to us! Can I ask who your tiler is?? I need to get some quotes underway... can you PM me some details and where you have seen his work?! Re: Tiling in Perth 10Mar 31, 2015 3:07 pm Ok, here is another question... how many of you chose lapatto and how many went polished??? The wife likes the lighter coloured polished tiles because they look shiney and glamorous but I am worried they will show lots of dust and haze. On the other hand, the lapatto finish is a little to flat and textured. Grrr.... tile choices are annoying me at the moment, I want to narrow down what I want but being all the way in Baldivis makes it hard to get to Osborne Park (where most tile shops are) especially with a 19 month old!!!! Re: Tiling in Perth 12Mar 31, 2015 4:20 pm Ah cool. Yeah I was a little worried that the glazed/polished tiles would be very high maintenance but I guess they will make the place feel a lot more open and light. The wet area's were always going to be lapatto.... happy with the Dale Alcock range for there. Just wanted better tiles for the main area since DA will only lay up to 450X450 for some reason Re: Tiling in Perth 14Mar 31, 2015 4:34 pm <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Tiling in Perth 15Mar 31, 2015 8:56 pm Hi awcarroll! we are also building with DA and went with a 300x600 wall tile and a 300x300 floor tile for the wet areas. We were very annoyed when we got to our colour consult as we wanted the 300x600 for the flooring also but we weren't allowed. We chose paradox grey through tiles expo (the ones used in the Elwood display and on the feature wall on the alfresco in the stoneleigh outside) They were very expensive I think $110 sqm for the tiles alone not including them to be laid and not including to have mitred throughout. I think we could have saved lots getting it done through another tiler (which they were going to allow if we wanted the larger floor tiles) but the hassle for us wasn't worth it. We have a 600x600 glazed/polished porcelain tile in our current house and as much as I love them I would NEVER EVER have them again. They are beautiful when clean (after a steam mop and wipe over with a microfibre cloth- SOOOO much work invloved so there aren't any water marks!) but then 5 minutes later once someone walks on them they show up everything!! We have a 2 and a half year old and I have basically given up and have had to accept having marks on the floors constantly, otherwise I would be cleaning them everyday(no exaggeration either!) Hope this info helps you Re: Tiling in Perth 16Mar 31, 2015 9:24 pm Hey Jelbell! I am following your build as well and we are nearly neighbours I think! We will building on Haricot street Tuart Ridge just behind the new IGA and Makaybe school! That sux about your tiles.... we got told our tiles are all mitred as we went the display spec Stoneleigh display.... will see how that goes!!! I also wanted to explore the option of using 300x600 on wet area floors.... I don't see why not.... but if they give me the **** I'll delete their tiling and do it myself. There is a fine line between convenience and price IMO. I am already doing my own driveway, verandah, alfresco, tiles and feature doors. Can add carpets and wet areas if need be! Geez..... we spend all this money on their houses and then they say no to a certain tile?? So am I to assume they use Tile Expo for their tiling?? Hoping to go and look at more tile options this weekend so will have a look. As for the glazed, I am with you honestly. I am mildly OCD and have a 19 month old so I would prefer a lapatto/semi polished tile.... just need to convince my wife! Lol! And I still want some shine but a mirror tile would be hard work. The Nova Lapatto Bianco - rectified from Crosby tiles looks good to me!! Just want to see it for myself! http://www.crosbytiles.com.au/600-2/ Re: Tiling in Perth 17Mar 31, 2015 9:49 pm about the polish tile, if you pick the dark colour it will definitely show the marks, but if you pick the light colour it won't. My mum house has polish creamy porcelain tiles, can't see the foot print at all. Re: Tiling in Perth 18Mar 31, 2015 10:02 pm awcarroll Caraf88, that sounds good! I'll write the details on the thread once I have them, my partner has them and he works up north at the moment. Thought I should add aswell, majority of builders won't let you delete tiling to the wet areas as it would void the structural warranty if you do because of waterproofing to the tiles. It did say in the contract that they are not responsible if their tilers can not lay them though. Our tiler laid ours fine. One area where they didn't the builder had them redo it. Building our first home - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75306 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7548 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8088 4 14463 |
