Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Tiling in Perth 24Apr 01, 2015 12:10 pm awcarroll Hey Jelbell! I am following your build as well and we are nearly neighbours I think! We will building on Haricot street Tuart Ridge just behind the new IGA and Makaybe school! That sux about your tiles.... we got told our tiles are all mitred as we went the display spec Stoneleigh display.... will see how that goes!!! I also wanted to explore the option of using 300x600 on wet area floors.... I don't see why not.... but if they give me the **** I'll delete their tiling and do it myself. There is a fine line between convenience and price IMO. I am already doing my own driveway, verandah, alfresco, tiles and feature doors. Can add carpets and wet areas if need be! Geez..... we spend all this money on their houses and then they say no to a certain tile?? So am I to assume they use Tile Expo for their tiling?? Hoping to go and look at more tile options this weekend so will have a look. As for the glazed, I am with you honestly. I am mildly OCD and have a 19 month old so I would prefer a lapatto/semi polished tile.... just need to convince my wife! Lol! And I still want some shine but a mirror tile would be hard work. The Nova Lapatto Bianco - rectified from Crosby tiles looks good to me!! Just want to see it for myself! http://www.crosbytiles.com.au/600-2/ Oh how funny!!! We are on Wollomai so I think we are safe to call ourselves neighbours!! I LOVE the display spec Stoneleigh! I can't wait wait to start following your build when your all up and running!! Same reason we were really annoyed when we got to the colour consult... We were quite happy to pay the extra for laying but to still be told no (when the whole reason we are going through DA was for freedom to do what we want) was such a let down. My partner said that they shouldn't use the bigger tiles in their display homes then because it is very misleading and the consultant said they have now stopped doing that. They use the 3 companies Tiles expo, european ceramics (which is defiantly worth having a look at, they have some amazing stuff. We are getting the feature travertine tile on the front done through them) and Crosby's. Tiles expo was a bit strange as it is a warehouse (unless we went to the wrong spot!) so we couldn't actually go in there. Luckily Dale's showroom had a good selection of their bigger tiles. We went to the DA showroom first for a bit of inspiration and to see what tiles they had and then had a drive around to the tiling places (which are about 5 minutes away from the showroom). What really helped us is going online to the DA website and taking a look at their bathrooms to see what we liked and didn't like in terms of the colours etc. This helped us narrow down what we were after. Then we went to a few different displays and that's when our decision was set in stone. I think the tile showrooms are great but a little overwhelming as it is hard to "see it" so by the end of our outing my partner and I were about to kill one another!!! Lol But defiantly a good start. I must admit the tiles were by far the hardest for us to pick as well as the glass splashback and cabinets! Everything else seemed like a breeze after the colour consult! Hope this helps you Sounds like you are doing a lot of work already!!! Great that you are so handy! I do remember the consultant saying some sort of warranty would be void but I can't remember what exactly so it might be worth double checking if the tiling was done through someone else. Completely agree about the glazed!! Im very OCD too and we have a very light colour throughout (thinking it wouldn't show us as much) but they drive me nuts! I cleaned them yesterday afternoon and just looking at them now they already have every mark possible! The Nova Lapatto Bianco tiles look really great!!! I do love that look.. will look very sleek in the Stoneleigh! Let us know how you go over the weekend!! Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7554 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8091 4 14468 |
