Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 26, 2015 8:10 pm Hi all, We are building at the moment and noticed that yesterday that a backhoe hit the back theatre room wall of our home, splitting the wall in two. The backhoe was still on the property after and we have been onsite with the site supervisor who has assured us the problem will be fixed. The gyprock on the inside is also damaged. However we cannot see whether the timber frame is damaged. One day later (today) we have noticed that the split wall has already been knocked down and a new palette of bricks has been delivered. We do not want the company to try and cover it up - rather we want the opportunity to get an independent structural report. Does anyone know whether we can request for the builder to delay the amendment of this problem whilst we get an external assessor? Any advice would be appreciated! Re: Brick damage on a house and land package 2Mar 26, 2015 8:18 pm You can always request, but I don't know if they'd be obliged to wait. However, if you can't get someone in in time, you could have a good look at it yourself and take plenty of photos of what has happened. Framing isn't rocket science, and if there is damage it's generally pretty easy to fix it up in quite a structurally sound way. Just make sure there are unbroken sticks of timber going from floor to ceiling, and fastened in well, and you should be ok. If there are any damaged studs its not that hard to replace them or place a new one next to it with the bricks down. keep in mind a bit of damage to a wall in one location will not render your house structurally unsound.
