I wouldnt be installing my own data points and I work in IT. The fines that could potentially be imposed are pretty large, insurance could also be impacted as well. Do I agree with them, no. If I could I would run the cables but the risk of fine or issues with insurance is a risk i am not prepared to take. Yes it would be done by a licenced cabler who is a friend and works in the industry. Re: access to run data cable 5Mar 27, 2015 8:59 am Proper way to do this is to inform your SS. He might ask your friend to fill out some forms and submit insurance papers for liability and insurance purposes before he is permitted. Re: access to run data cable 6Mar 27, 2015 9:07 am Yep our builder was more than happy for us to get cabling installed by a third party during construction. Your timing has to be right though- if you have brick internal walls like us you need to get your conduits and cables done before your plasterer gets there...I was caught off guard how fast they work so we only got bare min done. Can always easily add points later using just the cavity in the external double brick walls. Think it all depends on your builder and site supervisor- ours have both been really easy going with any issues, questions, access etc. my SS just gave me my own key so I can go up there whenever I want to. Fingers crossed your SS is fine with it too. Good luck with your build!
