Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 22, 2015 10:26 am Hi My wife and I are in the process of builder our home. We are at Framing stage. We decided to go take a look at how things were progressing and a number of things really concerned me. It appears that there are apprentices doing a lot of work that is unsupervised which has raised some significant safety issues. What I saw on site was evidence of someone who clearly doesn't know how to use a nail gun. Nails had completely missed there mark by a good 20 cm. It seriously looks like someone just went to town shooting nails through any piece of wood they could see. The killer for me was that someone had tried to nail sheet bracing in to a steal beam. The nail has gone through the sheet hit the beam and obviously bent. This is not just on one occasion either there are about 10 nails in a row where the person operating the nail gun has tried to nail sheet bracing to a steal beam. What immediately came to mind was that WorkSafe ad where the apprentice shoots a nail in the the steal beam that bounces back in to his eye. The quality of the worked look fairly poor from what I could see and I'm not even a builder. It is as if all common sense is not existent. It also makes me wonder what I'm not seeing that might be structural that is also poor quality Also, when I turned up the front gate was wide open. There are nails everywhere; on the ground sticking out form the wood, and kids next door who ould easily get in. Just wondering what I should do? I was going to call my builder first thing on Monday morning and tell them my concerns and request unqualified trades not to work on side and if they are onsite then they need to be supervised adequately. I'll also raise my concerns about the quality of the work which is not giving me much confidence.
