Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 4Jun 03, 2015 5:43 pm Hi Woody17, We are building at Bingara Gorge in Wilton. We just received our construction certificate and cannot wait for some movement to start. Where are you building at? How has the build been so far? Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 5Jun 04, 2015 3:03 pm We are building at Yallah, across the freeway from Haywards Bay. The first thing you will see will be a site peg out, it's so exciting to see it happen but it took almost 20 days after our CC was issued before they did it. How build has been quite frustrating really, but I believe that is due to the site supervisor. Our slab was poured on the 10th March, and we still don't have internal linings started - gyprock was promised to us yesterday, now they have changed the story and saying they can't get plasterers, so it's going to be next week! Keep on top of them, visit your site everyday or at least every couple of days and keep an eye on things, if you aren't sure ask the question. We thought we would be finished end of July, but that just doesn't seem possible at the moment Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 6Jun 04, 2015 3:38 pm So hopefully within 20 days we will see the peg out then. That's disappointing the way the build is turning out for you. We will definitely keep on top of things and hopefully push it faster as well. We would like to be in for Xmas, but that just depends on how quick they start and progress. We have found the admin side of things flowed easily. They have been great with letting us know what is happening. It's nice to be able to find out from others how their build is going as we don't know anyone else that has built with Barrington. What stage did they let you know who your site supervisor would be? Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 7Jun 09, 2015 4:45 pm Pretty sure we were told our SS once the CC had been issued, but it doesn't really make a difference as they don't like to be contacted by the customers. Hope you get a better one than us. More disappointment today, our insulation had been put in on Friday and over the long weekend the wind has ripped out most of it, so it will need redoing again even though gyprock should start tomorrow - can't get a clear answer from anyone on this one! And a house being built in the next suburb over from ours by BH that was bricked 2 weeks after ours, has now had it's gyprock completed - starting to feel like we are getting pushed to the side here, and no one cares as we are still within contract. I have vowed never to build again Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 8Jun 27, 2015 8:37 am We finished our Rochester build with Barrington in April this year. We had same start, it was exactly 20 days and it was a very frustrating and long process. We drove by our site most days and it was annoying to see so many days and weeks go by that had no one onsite. We always seem to be waiting for trades to finish on other jobs. They never seem to put in any extra effort to catch up. We didn't say anything for quite a long way into the build. When we asked for a calculated finish date including rain days we were slapped with a 2 day contract extension variation. We had calculated and were pretty close to when the contracted finish date should of been. We think they were going to run out of time as they were cleaning and still painting our house while we were having our handover. Our neighbours built at the same time and started 2 months after and were in 2 months earlier. Our SS comment at hand over was "We may not be the quickest but the work is quality" well I can tell you there have been some issues that I don't think they would except if it was their house. Everything started well but now that we have finished I would not build with them again. Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 9Jun 29, 2015 9:16 am Thanks Bobdaboarder for your reply!! I knew it wasn't just us experiencing such a slow build. Frustrating is an understatement and I feel like they just keep sticking our build in the too hard basket, so we don't get the tradies when we should be. I also believe our SS has far too many jobs going at once. Can I ask, where abouts you built? We have our kitchen being installed today and apparently the fix out is also starting. Our contract is until November, so they will definitely finish before then, but when I asked SS at pre gyprock walk through for a time frame, he said 6 weeks from gyprock - we have 4 weeks to go for that and I just can't see it happening Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 10Jun 29, 2015 7:39 pm We built in Sutherland Shire. I think they have too many going at once as well. We were constantly waiting for trades to finish on other jobs. Non of there trades work weekends either. If we didn't work out our finish date and then press them for their calculation I reckon they would of dragged it out longer. It was annoying to have the painters still painting while we were having our handover. Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 11Jun 30, 2015 6:51 pm Yes! We are constantly getting the excuse "we can't get trades" or "we have a lot of work on at the moment", 2 excuses that just don't wash with us anymore! I've just sent a rather cranky email today, about this weeks forcast, that is just a rehash of last weeks, bet I don't get a reply - so this time I will be calling them and if need be going into the office for some answers. They have totally taken the thrill of a new house away from us One other question for you, if you can remember, how long did it take them from gyprock to handover for your build? To anyone reading this, that is considering building with these people, be prepared for a very slow build, if you want it done quickly choose someone else!! Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 12Jun 30, 2015 11:07 pm They started gyprock 1st week of Dec. We got handover 2nd of April. There was no work over xmas for 5 weeks. Industry standard allows 5 weeks. Some of our construction updates were crap too. One week our update was bricks delivered to site. Then they sat there for over 2 weeks with out a drop of rain waiting for brick layers. All up our bricklaying took over 2 months due to weather and the fact the bricklayers keep coming and going between jobs. Not once was there any effort to try and make up time. I would keep hitting them up for their calculated contract finish date including rain days. We used a rain calender on the bureau weather website to get our calculation and I think we calculated it with in a couple of days of actual handover. Mind you they did slap us with a 2 day extension the day after we hassled them for our finish date. Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 13Jul 01, 2015 9:44 am Right, so if you take out the 5 weeks shut down, it was about 11 weeks from gyrpock!! Ridiculous considering our SS told us 6 weeks from gyprock finished! We had heaps of rain and our bricks sat for 2 weeks, but when the bricklayers did arrive, they completed the house in 5 days! Same with the gyprock, we waited forever but when the plasterers arrived, the house was completely gyprocked within 5 days! I have sent two emails this week, with no reply - the second one outlined their BS forcasts and lack of communication - figure we don't have anything to lose by speaking my mind now! I have actually kept a monthly calendar, and written down every single rain day, when supplies had been delivered, actual people working on site etc, so if they try for rain days at the end, I will be able to say "well actually you have X amount of fine days that you didn't take advantage of". I have our contract end date already which is 6th November, they could be really nasty and drag it out that long, but I don't think they will. Re: Anyone currently building with Barrington Homes? 15Oct 19, 2015 8:18 am AshT17 I have just quickly read your review and could not agree more with what you were saying - funny how we had the same site supervisor as I believe a lot comes down to how well they do their job. I will write a lengthy review at a later date, as our experience was actually very similar to yours! Bunch of uncaring d@#kheads to sum it up! One thing I will say is, we must have been building about the same time (got our keys last week of August) and they actually told us that we were the worst customers they had ever had and we didn't end up at fair trading!! I haven’t. But have a Lowe Design home. Not only did I find Matt Lowe patronising and a bully, but the home is NOT TO CODE.
