Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our BTH Build in Doubleview 161Nov 25, 2015 9:07 pm Shouldn't the bottom of the doors be checked too? I'm checking ours with a mirror, especially doors in wet areas! That doesn't sound too bad then, will 2 weeks fit in with your flooring? Is that like those mirrors security guys use to look under cars? Our trades arent budging as they need 1 week for install and xmas is around the corner. Re: Our BTH Build in Doubleview 165Nov 27, 2015 8:54 pm They cladded the front pillars with ?cement boards to create a flat square finish so it could be rendered. Not overally happy about this but we were given no alternative. I would obviously had preferred the brickies to do a proper job or the SS to have identified this way back then and made them fix it. Moving on., the cladding i saw installed was no improvement over the sub-standard brickwork. Uneven and not secured down properly. I hope the SS rectifies this before it is rendered. On another note we have hit another late change on our mirrors due to our floor to ceiling tiling. 2 weeks out from house completion we were told we had to have clips on our mirrors to hold them to tje wall which would mean a 5mm gap between the mirror and tile border, not acceptable in any circumstance or to have a stick on mirror with no clips pay an extra $300 per mirror. As we have 4 mirrors thats another $1200. Either option is not acceptable especially this late in the game so we are wanting them to tile the wall recesses they have left for the mirrors and not supply any mirrors, waiting on the CLO to get back to us. We can easily source our own mirrors post handover. I just dont understand how it gets this far down the track before they realise they don't know how to finish a room and what they then propose is so expensive. We havent changed anything here for 12 months. Re: Our BTH Build in Doubleview 167Nov 29, 2015 12:59 pm That's such a bummer Dongster. It irritates me that we pay builders to do things right, which includes supervising their trades. Complete rubbish that we have to then get them to fix things after the fact, costing us more time and effort. Hope u can get the recesses tiled as u want. Cant imagine that would be a major issue. If so why are they so lucky??? Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our BTH Build in Doubleview 169Nov 29, 2015 3:36 pm No, I haven't heard any happy clients at the moment. How can they possibly when things like this are going on over everyone's builds. Simply don't care enough about the stress it puts on their clients. How does it get to the finishing stages and you have just realised this, didn't you check all specis, manufacturers recommendations and documentation thoroughly before you signed the building contract... it is a bit too late now IMO. This would be a matter possibly for your engineer and the Building Commission Masking any possible/probable structural defective work isn't recommended. Why 1. The board adds no structural purpose whatsoever 2. If you cant see possible future problems how are they to be evaluated/fixed? 2. The codes are designed to give people adequate warning (visible cracking, excessive deflection, etc) of ultimate failure so they can evacuate safely 4. These and the Options should have been explained to you, etc Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Our BTH Build in Doubleview 172Nov 29, 2015 8:16 pm StructuralBIMGuy Dongster I just dont understand how it gets this far down the track before they realise they don't know how to finish a room and what they then propose is so expensive. You are actually making out its our fault. We're not builders, how are we supposed to know things like that. You are being down right rude actually. Not helping StructuralBIMguy. We sign up to a builder to build us a house as we dont want to need to understand the intricate details. I know i do my job properly and wouldnt expect you to have any idea of what i do, thats why we emply others. And when i pay damn good money for someone to build my house i expect just that. Me understanding building codes and the like wont effect trades doing a shyte job and helping me out. For that i expect my builder to take control as this is why i have paid them. Re: Our BTH Build in Doubleview 179Nov 29, 2015 10:55 pm Haha fan girls! We could of still been "fan girls" if the builder had done their job correctly! Seeing as you seem to know them, I'm sure you can pass that on. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Our BTH Build in Doubleview 180Nov 29, 2015 11:38 pm What a nightmare.. I forgot to mention my aircon died the 2nd time i turned it on.. took 2 weeks to have it fixed! It was literally fixed on Friday.. so much for going with Habitat Air because they are local and it gets fixed quickly if there are problems! The top of my door frames were painted, but they just painted over the excess mortar left from the brickies.. I'm still waiting on a tin of paint so i can fix their sh*t job.. I'll sand back the tops and paint them again. Make sure you have weep holes.. mine weren't done, my building inspector had to argue with my SS about it, the finally got done a week ago. I honestly wouldn't have PCI without a building inspector there... even then there is stuff that mine didn't pick up.. because there was just so much.. he got the big stuff don't get me wrong.. but little things i pick up every day.. Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 8 2220 of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 14580 "Losers" "humanity" "off time" "your" "top notch" "love symbol" Sounds like ponzo is done using other people's toilets 37 14039 |
