Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 22, 2008 9:18 pm Hi all
Just a quick one. Does it sound right for a building permit to demolish a dwelling to cost $850, being as follows: a) to assess plan, issue building permit, lodge documentation with Moreland City Council, carrying out final inspection and issuing certificate of final inspection for dwelling demolition - cost $700 Plus gst $70 plus council fees $82 = $852. I know my demolition company was arranging the cost of the permit of which I was to pay - I then received the above invoice in the mail from a building surveyor (obviously appointed by the demolisher). Let me know your thoughts. I will also call the council to check the process. thanks guys Weez Re: Demolition permit - $850? 2Jun 22, 2008 10:32 pm Its a lot of money but not absurd in the building/renovating world when it comes to those sorts of things - get used to it Re: Demolition permit - $850? 3Jun 22, 2008 10:43 pm Doesn't sound right to me??
Our demolisher organised our demolition permit, and though I have no idea how much council charged them, it sounds like a hell of a lot! We paid $8800 for demolition, I would be surprised if 10% of that went on the permit Although, as I said I have no idea what he paid, so I could be wrong ... Sorry, probably doesn't help you. Have you contacted council directly to verify this? Re: Demolition permit - $850? 4Jun 23, 2008 7:55 pm We had to pay asset protection whilst they demolished - it was 161 fee plus a 690 bond to the council (which we got back). Could some of it be a bond? We're Moonee Valley council. Fi has moved in!! Re: Demolition permit - $850? 5Jun 23, 2008 9:10 pm I have just been through this process with a council in Sydney (Kogarah). I was only applying to demolish an existing single brick garage on our block and had to pay an application fee of about $250, then a bond (footpath, crossover, road) of $980. Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Demolition permit - $850? 6Jun 23, 2008 9:36 pm thanks Luke, donuts & Brittany
Yes the costs just keep adding up and I am happy to pay - I just dont like to be ripped off.... if something doesnt make sense.. i have found it is worth checking into... I will ring the surveyor tomorrow and tell you the story... thanks kids Weez Re: Demolition permit - $850? 7Jun 23, 2008 9:59 pm We're building in Ku-ring-gai Council. It cost me $455 to lodge the DA for demolition. The fee is based on the value of the work. I assume it includes all the relevant inspections etc.
