Moisture upstairs is something one certainly wishes to avoid. We don't have aircon and I hoped the warmer air circulating above, as long as humidity was low, would help there. Anti-bacterial properties too, interesting. I would have thought sound would be mitigated by a mat but we have been informed by the timber floor people we would be wasting our money with it upstairs, so others experiences here are important to listen to. Thanks for the heads up. Yeh, we did a bit of research too and one of the things we found out is that the acoustic stuff is actually more about sound going up, not down through the cement floor on the first floor. It's like a cushioning effect that reduces the amount of sound bouncing up.. well.. I'm no expert so I don't know how to properly explain it.. but yeh.. they are kind of right about it not really having much effect in regards to stopping noise travelling down.. but all the other properties of an underlay are important for protecting the wood from the bottom. I don't think underlay is all that expensive from memory but it does of course increase the costs regardless..
