Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 03, 2015 10:02 pm Hi everyone, First time poster, long time lurker on HomeOne forum. After many years of living in Adelaide, me and my fiance agreed to build a house in Campbelltown area as it's not too far from the city but offering nice and relaxing environment after work. With many new house inspections, we decided to give Sekisui ago since their staff are quite helpful and the service they offer is top notch. A problem with building in Eastern suburb of Adelaide is there are lot of clay underground and Sekisui even helped us to do a soil report before we went ahead with the contract to buy the land. The council thing took about 3 months to go through and we finally got the approval in December 2014. So due to Xmas and NY holiday, the builder did not start till the end of January. It's must be great to be tradies this time of yeah . So we got the final go just before Australia day, nightmare started to happen. The builder called me up when I was at work and told me he found the base and heaps of concrete and asbestos when they prepared the soil for the build. Sekisui was proven to be the most helpful who we could talk to. They agreed to organise the asbestos specialist and demolition removal to take out the dumb within 3 weeks. Fortunately the cost of removing them is quite affordable. Finger crossed there is no more issue from now . Got an email 2 weeks ago from SS of Sekisui that things gonna restart again, as a matter of fact, they already prepared the soil to do the trenching and water pipe. Nice !! I thought based on one of the other forum members (Bobbin) that they are pulling out and there is the option to cancel the contract with no penalties? In any case looking forward to seeing your build come to life! Do share the plans and colours / selections etc. Re: House Building with Sekisui - Campbelltown 3Mar 20, 2015 10:55 pm Gee, that was pretty crappy about the asbestos and concrete. Glad you got it all sorted without too much drama. Yeah, please show us your plans. My parents' first house was in Campbelltown (Braemore Terrace) and I lived there until I was 8yo ... so many lovely memories Hope it's all smooth sailing now. Re: House Building with Sekisui - Campbelltown 4Apr 07, 2015 5:28 pm Hi Andrew We signed a contract to build with Sekisui late last year, but as Yvonneh posted above, we were advised at the start of March that they are phasing out their operations in South Australia and will be completely out of the state by the end of December. We decided to cancel the contract and get our deposit back as we had not yet started building. For us, this was absolutely the right decision, but as you had started building already you would have been in a different position. We were still waiting on final changes to be made to the plans and pricing, and the sales consultant was dealing with that. They made all of the SC's redundant and closed the display homes immediately after the announcement! Have you had any issues with them after the start of March? I will follow your build with interest to see how things go. Hi All It has been a few weeks since my last update. The build has been progressing well. No major issues to report.
